Connor McDavid’s Edmonton Oilers are facing a serious issue right now. The Oilers lost a game against the Colorado Avalanche on February 7, then again against the Philadelphia Flyers on February 22. The Edmonton fans were left fuming when their favorite team lost back-to-back games. But then, they lost to the Washington Capitals again with 7-3 on February 23. The back-to-back losses, fans thought, would serve as an alarm to the Edmonton team to gather themselves and buckle up to win today’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. But, oops, they lost again with a 4-1 final score.
Today’s game was an exact copy of the previous game against the Washington Capitals. Leon Draisaitl opened the scoring on power play and the Capitals scored a staggering five goals. And similarly, in the Tuesday game, again Draisaitl started off and the Tampa Bay Lightning scored four straight goals after the first period.

While the backlash is inevitable, the Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch tried to cover up for the team while also throwing the players under the bus. Knoblauch stated, “We’re a fragile group right now. We’re a little reluctant to play our game. Confidence is a little hard right now. We haven’t gone through this tough stretch in a while.” And that’s now what the Oilers fans want. No justification, but a result. The numbers should speak for what Connor McDavid’s team is doing.
But as y’all know, with a losing streak of four games, you can’t expect forgiveness and sympathy—especially not in a league as ruthless as the NHL. Fans are growing impatient, frustration is mounting, and the pressure is cranking up to a whole new level. The Oilers faithful have been through plenty of ups and downs, but back-to-back losses for the five-time Stanley Cup champions? That’s a tough pill to swallow. Expectations are sky-high, right? And the tolerance for sloppy play is wearing thin. If the Oilers don’t turn things around fast, the criticism will only get louder!
Fans can’t tolerate the Edmonton Oilers’ back-to-back losses
The streak of losses has triggered NHL fans to take a jab at the Edmonton Oilers. An X-user perfectly described where the Oilers are heading, the fans call the Oilers’ Tampa Bay game a “disaster”. Another fan just pummeled the Edmonton player, Stuart Skinner, “I don’t think Stuart Skinner cuts it if the Edmonton Oilers want to win the Stanley Cup.” Connor McDavid’s Edmonton Oilers are now second in the Pacific division with 34 wins and 20 losses. And if such a disastrous losing streak continues, a nightmare will continue to loom over the Edmonton Oilers.

But contradictions are there. Fans’ “It’s not just Stuart Skinner, it’s not just Bouchard. The majority of this team needs to play better. So many turnovers, just wasting possession,” comment, signifies how the latest game was a mixed bag. Someone can say, oh there are 23 games left and the team is already in 2nd position. Fair enough, that’s a valid point but to clinch the safest spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Edmonton guys have to pull up.
