NHL has finally released its top-leading scorers of the season. But before revealing the names, let’s take a look at the top teams of the season released by the league on Thursday. With everyone going on a break before the 4 Nations Face-Off, the top place in the league is secured by the Winnipeg Jets, followed by the Washington Capitals taking the second spot and the Edmonton Oilers coming in at 3rd. Now coming to the league’s top scorers of the season, it’s a total of ten players on the list. The first spot is secured by a player of the No. 10 ranked team, the Colorado Avalanche, and the last spot is also secured by someone from the Avalanche themselves. The team seems to have arrived at a full-circle moment.
Now, keeping the winner and the runner-up to be revealed later on, let’s begin with No. 3 Nikita Kucherov. The Tampa Bay Lightning right winger is famous for being one of the most dangerous offensive players in the league. One of the star performers in the Thursday night game against the Ottawa Senators, Kucherov is coming off with 79 points in a total of 51 games played this season as one of the top power-play guys.
Adding next to the list is Tampa Bay Leafs right winger Mitch Marner. Taking the 4th spot, Mitch’s 16 goals scored this season round up to give him 71 points along with 55 assists in a total of 53 games played as of now. This also makes him the Leafs’ leading scorer with the most points bagged this season, although his spot is tied by a player who has been headlining for quite sometime in the past weeks.

With 71 points made in over 48 games for the 24-25 season, Edmonton Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid also takes the No. 4 spot, sharing with Mitch Marner. The Oilers star is already coming off great with over 1053 points at the age of 28 years. Carrying unquestionable defensive skills, Connor’s prominence has been in the bloom since his 2020-21 season with 105 points in 56 games. Next comes someone from the top team of the season.

The No. 1 ranked team has its #81 Kyle Connor in the sixth spot. The Jets drafted him on a three-year contract in 2016. The left winger with 69 points in 56 games played this season has two NHL All-Star Game appearances in the 2022 and 2024 seasons. And coming next on the list is Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel. At No. 7, Jack in the last eleven games has scored over eight goals and five assists. In this season, the player has given out a total of 67 points in 54 games played as of now while shooting at a 11.2 percentage like last season. Also tying him in the list is David Pastrnak.
The Boston Bruins may not be in much highlight this season while ending up at the 18th rank, but their right winger David Pastrnak is coming off with prominence while taking the 7th spot in the lead scorer list. Sharing the spot alongside Jack Eichel, David’s 67 points score in over 56 games played this season looks quite promising.

With an empty 8th spot, the Carolina Hurricanes’ forward Mikko Rantanen is shining as the No. 9; currently away from the game while suffering from an undisclosed injury, he is coming off uncertain to appear in the Hurricanes’ upcoming match. In over 55 games played this season, the player has made 66 points, which also ranks him at No. 3 as the right winger in terms of the 26 goals and 40 assists made.
The last spot is secured by Martin Necas, the Colorado Avalanche forward. With over 64 points made in a total of 57 games played this season, the player takes the No. 10 rank. Having talked about the No. 3 through the No. 10 players in detail, it’s finally time to reveal the top two NHL scorers.
Teams with their best talents at top spots
The Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers teams have in-depth talents in their squads. The special mention, however, comes to both Nathan MacKinnon and Leon Draisaitl taking the top two spots in the NHL leading scorer list. The two teams were recently paired together in a matchup on Friday in which the Avalanche team emerged out as the winner. Despite the loss, the Oilers seem to have one of their top-ranked players almost topping the chart.

Battling with Oilers’ forward Draisaitl, McKinnon secures himself with the top spot on the league’s highest scorer list. The Hart Memorial Trophy winner of the 2023-24 season didn’t find himself in the league’s leading scorer ranking with over 140 points back then. It was in this season that he finally got what he deserved. In a total of 57 games played, MacKinnon has scored 21 goals and 66 assists, giving him a total of 87 points.

Taking the No. 2 spot is Edmonton Oilers’ forward Leon Draisaitl, who, after a disappointing loss against Avalanche, became the first player to secure the 40-goal mark this season. Trailing four points behind Nathan, Leon’s 83 points through 55 games played are emblematic of his achievement. The player has a six-game point-winning streak with five goals and four assists made.
Both players are the only ones to have exceeded 80 points this year. For Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon, his $12.6 million cap hit from last season is proving to be well worth it, given his current career-high performance. Meanwhile, Leon Draisaitl’s eight-year, $112 million extension—set to begin in the 2025–26 season—seems justified by his outstanding play. Will they continue delivering these stellar performances until the end of the season? Stay tuned to find out!
