Talking about back-to-back four defeats? Here we are. The Detroit Red Wings faced a 2-4 loss against the Utah Hockey club today, as the Utah team was simply better at being in the right place at the right time. This was the Detroit Red Wings’ 4th straight loss after a victory against the Minnesota Wild on February 25, 2025. After the game, two star players of the Red Wings were asked about the loss, and they confessed to nearly everything that went wrong.
Patrick Kane and Dylan Larkin were in conversation with the NHL reporters in the post-game press conference. Larkin, who is the captain, admitted candidly, “Just can’t find a win. We’ve lost. Not playing well. And we’ve lost playing well. And losing in different ways.” He continued, “You look at the big picture and kind of zoom out a little bit; it’s four games. We got a chance tomorrow night to rate the ship and get that win and hopefully build confidence from there.” The Red Wings will play against Alex Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals tomorrow.
Larkin has been striving to see the Red Wings perform better as a team, despite which there is nothing great happening. In the game against Utah, Larkin scored a crucial goal which increased his tally to 24. Though he ranks 27th in the league in scoring goals, there was no goal from him in the last five games. And that frustration reflected in his response today.

And when the same question by reporters was raised with Patrick Kane about today’s loss, he said, “I mean, especially when you look at the schedule and see that you know we don’t have many home games left. I think we might have seven after this one tonight and 13 on the road. So, yeah definitely missed an opportunity.” This time, the Red Wings couldn’t stop the downward spiral of their losing streak. The next time they face Utah will be on March 25, 2025.
Meanwhile, the team is engulfed by the trade deadline that is set to close on Friday. With only a couple of hours left until the deadline, the Red Wings are busy moving strategic pieces and players.
The Detroit Red Wings are knee-deep in a whirlwind of trades
To talk about the Detroit Red Wings’ latest deal, they acquired forward Yanni Gourde (50 percent retained) from the Seattle Kraken. And which players did they trade in exchange for Gourde? The franchise exchanged Harvard defenseman Kyle Aucoin. But wait, the team didn’t stop there. They further traded Gourde to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft while retaining 25 percent of Gourde’s cap. The Red Wings now own nine of the NHL 2025 draft picks. Talk about team building moves.

To talk about the current situation of the Red Wings, they have already lost center Andrew Copp in a season-ending shoulder injury. This leaves the Wings in need of a good defenseman. And well, with the recent trades, the Columbus Blue Jackets have claimed Christian Fischer. Michael Rasmussen took over for Fischer.
Other than this, the Red Wings have also recalled Carter Mazur. He is a 2021 third-round draft pick for the Red Wings. The expectations from Carter soar high. His brilliant plays, which were amplified in the AHL, can leverage the Detroit Red Wings to the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Red Wings are currently 5th in the Atlantic division. If they manage to move the right players to the right positions without thinking about future trades, the Red Wings may land themselves a spot in the playoffs.
