The 2022-2023 nominee for King Clancy Memorial Trophy, Thomas Wilson, more commonly known as Tom Wilson has always been pretty much on the news discourses for his unique skills on the ice hockey rink. The Canadian right winger plays for the Washington Capitals in National Hockey League since 2012.

Last year, Wilson was voted for third best-skilled player in NHL with 10.7 percent of the vote and the Boston Bruins left winger was voted for first rank with 26. 4 percent votes. The second position was held by McDavid from Edmund Oilers with 18.3 percent votes. With big physical power with the weapon of speed, Wilson signed a new contract with Washington Capitals for $45.5 million.

Earlier this year, Tom Wilson recovered after going through surgery and made a comeback. The 29-year-old hockey forward player signed a brand new contract with his team with an average annual worth of 6.5 million dollars. This is a seven-year contract that will begin from the 2024-2025 seasons and will continue to the 2030-2031 NHL season. This deal was offered after this extraordinary season when the athlete scored 22 points, 13 goals, and nine assists in just 33 games. 

The Capitals shared this news on Instagram, and an hour later Wilson also delighted his fans. The athlete shared this pleasure with his fans on his social media and wrote, “Hey Caps fans, so excited to sign an extension to stay with this team. It’s really what I always wanted. The fan base, the organization, the city. It all means so much to me. I just wanted to say thank you for all the support over the years.” Not just this past 33 games, but the 2021-2022 season has been quite incredible for Wilson.

The 2021-2022 NHL season

In the previous season of 78 games, Wilson set his NHL career-high goals with 28 assists, 52 points, 10 power-play points, and 24 goals. For attaining such a great season, Wilson also thanked his fans, saying that they made Washington D.C. his home.

Tom Wilson greatly performed in the 2018 Stanley Cup with 15 points, 5 goals, and 10 assists. Seeing his progress and strong game, the Capitals decided to extend the deal. Brian MacLellan, the general manager of the Capitals asserted, “Tom possesses all the intangibles needed to win in this league and we are extremely pleased to sign him to a long-term contract, giving him the opportunity to finish his career in a Capitals’ uniform.” In just games 33 games in the previous season of the North American premier hockey league, Tom Wilson made his return to elite hockey. His fortes are his speed and strength to conquer the court that fans are eagerly waiting to witness.
