Connor Bedard is making headlines again. The last time, his name was everywhere in the social media and news for the overtime win. This 19-year-old beast became an overnight sensation when he scored an overtime goal to help the Chicago Blackhawks win against the Utah Hockey Club on March 7. Cool, right? But why is he making headlines this time? 

Connor Bedard dropped a mysterious photo on Instagram today, and it sparked debates among fans. Some Blackhawks fans think that if Bedard is giving up on leaving the city of Chicago, he shouldn’t go. Others are saying he’s definitely going to be transferred. So, what was this mysterious post that has sparked debate? He posted a photo of himself on Instagram celebrating after the overtime against Utah, while the caption has one emoji of home. And this home emoji has fired up many different speculations. 

So, Connor Bedard has already been the center of conversation for his low performance and struggles on the ice. After playing 65 games, he has only scored 17 goals, for which he ranks 105th in the entire league. That’s a huge number for a rookie, right? In the last 11 games played, Connor Bedard managed to score only one goal. He received major backlash for the same.

Fans said, “I realize that Bedard is just 19 and playing on a horrible team, but he was terrible in the Kings game—terrible in all three zones. He should visit Donato’s skating coach in the off-season. He needs to get faster, stronger, smarter.” The pressure is not just on Bedard but also on the team. It’s disappointing and sad at the same time to know that the Chicago Blackhawks haven’t won more than 40 games in a season in the past 8 years.

And the Chicago fans did not mis-attribute this continuous dry spell to placing an 18-year-old on the roster. Fans and experts still believe that Connor Bedard can turn around this losing streak. Reportedly, the franchise also fired former coach Anders Sorensen because he was not so supportive of Connor Bedard. 

This young prodigy signed a three-year rookie deal worth $13,350,000 with the Blackhawks in 2023. The contract is nearing its end this year, and that intrigued fans to speculate why Connor Bedard posted a house emoji. Is he interested in a transfer? Or is he calling Chicago his home? Fans drew different meanings from Connor Bedard’s IG post

Some fans believe that Connor Bedard is not leaving the city of Chicago. “He isn’t going anywhere.” A fan commented. “This teams future is bright with the youth movement and he is a big part of that. And no superstar runs from a tough situation. My guess is he says this (is) his home with that emoji.” Well, this definitely gets rumor mills churning out ‘what ifs’ which makes us believe that people will vote for him even if Connor is currently not at his best form. But another fan’s comment contradicts this. 

This fan on X posted, “Must mean he’s searching for a new home because he hates his life in Chicago and cannot wait to be on a new team.” As Bedard is in his last year of contract, fans can’t hold them back from speculating on team destinations he might have in mind as well. One fan’s comment, that said, “Nooooo I was told he hates it here he can’t wait to be a Canuck that can’t be true,” signifies the same. 

But no… Chicago fans don’t believe that the transfer will happen. “Lol. It means his agent and KD are working on an extension to be signed this summer, and he’s happy about the numbers he’s hearing.” What’s to say that Chicago might not have offered him a lucrative contract extension that he simply cannot say no to. Assuming the home emoji was posted to denote the current franchise as home, this comment might hold true.

While another comment went in the opposite direction, saying, “He’s house hunting. wants out of that awful team.” Well, the near future will tell us what we need to know with respect to Connor Bedard remaining on the Chicago team.
