The NHL stadium series is here and, dude, you can’t even imagine the excitement level. Mostly, fans are hyped up for the Columbus Blue Jackets matchup against the Detroit Red Wings set to happen at the home ground in Columbus. The President of NHL Contents and Events, Steve Mayer, has dropped nukes in the sports world after revealing the number of seats booked for the Stadium series happening on March 1, 2025.

The NHL stadium series is generally so big, but, this time, it may need more crew. Notably, the Columbus Blue Jackets inside, Jeff Svoboda, has posted a banger on X, “President of NHL Content & Events Steve Mayer says ticket sales for the #StadiumSeries are ‘up and over 90,000,’ the vast majority of which were purchased by fans in Columbus.” 

According to the ticket sales, the President of NHL’s content and event has also predicted that the upcoming event will be outstanding and “This will be a very pro-Blue Jacket crowd.” It’s always the case when the NHL hosts outdoor games. Fans remain pumped up, jumping up and down their seats with a grand atmosphere.

The Blue Jackets insider has also revealed the fact: “This puts the #StadiumSeries game in Ohio Stadium on pace to be the second-most attended game in NHL history.” Steve Mayer couldn’t hold his happiness back to say, “What a testament to the Columbus Blue Jackets that you can fill a stadium with 90,000 people.” 

The biggest NHL game happened when the Detroit Red Wings took over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Historic Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Want to know the number of people who attended? A staggering 105,491 fans donned in red and blue. It’s a sight for the ages.

Switching our focus, an interesting update for Columbus fans would be that it’s the Columbus Blue Jackets’ first outdoor appearance in the Stadium series in the 2025 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series. And it would be a special feeling for the Blue Jackets to play on the Ohio Buckeyes football field, as the college football team has won their first national championship title after a decade.

Columbus Blue Jackets, 1st Stadium series appearance and history 

R.J. Umberger, who played for the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2008 to 2014, couldn’t control his feelings about how great it was to witness his team’s first NHL stadium series appearance. The retired forward said, “We talked about it all the time: ‘When is one going to come here?’ It seemed like a pipe dream a while back there, and to see it finally come true, it’s a really big moment for this city.”

Well, that definitely signifies the Blue Jackets’ first outdoor game is not just a history in the making, but a dream come true moment for many.

As we mentioned, more than 90,000 hockey fans will fill the stands. This identifies two important things about Ohio state where the event will happen. One is obviously its recognition as a football town and, secondly, a hockey town. Besides, Ohio State Women’s hockey has also reacted to the update with excitement along with the Men’s team.

The Ohio State Men’s hockey team is at no. 8 in the country. The head coach of the team, Steve Rohlik, has said, “I think people will realize in a hurry that it is a hockey town.”

And remembering the past, Steve said, People love hockey. You go back to when the Blue Jackets [swept the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2019 Eastern Conference First Round], I mean, this town was on its ear. It’s just a really exciting time here.” That is where the excitement came from. It’s not the first time, but the right time too for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
