It all happened too fast at the Boston Bruins camp. Hours before the Bruins took on the Nashville Predators, they announced young talent Trent Frederic succumbed to an injury. Having missed the last three games already, the player moved to injured reserve (IR), before becoming involved in a three-way trade, and ended up with the Oilers. Naturally, coach Joe Sacco couldn’t avoid the topic after the Predators trashed the Bruins 6-3 on the ice.
Yet, coach Sacco had all the answers when reporters inquired if the upheaval and three transfers ahead of the game affected the Bruins’ “psyche” going into the game. Joe Sacco’s answer to such questions was a resounding, no. “I just don’t think that,” the coach told reporters, about Frederic’s trade impacting the Bruins during the post-game presser.
Sacco did lament the loss of a “great character” and a “good teammate” in Trent Frederic at such a whirlwind pace. However, he blamed their mistakes on the ice instead of the 27-year-old’s departure. “The start of the game, we mismanaged pucks, we turned the puck over, we gave the puck to them too much in the first period,” confessed the coach.

So despite their best efforts throughout the first two periods, the Boston Bruins continued to trail the Predators. While Bruins’ determination did pay off as they managed to “battle back in the third,” the momentum didn’t last. Despite the fans getting behind the Bruins, Ryan O’Reilly and Co.’s combined assault proved too much for Boston’s defense.
“They have some good offensive weapons,” admitted Coach Sacco. He also emphasized that had his team not conceded those two first period goals, the story may have been different.
And although Trent Frederic’s departure may not have affected the team’s morale during the match, it’s not like the Burins players didn’t bat an eye at their teammate’s departure.

Everyone will miss Trent Frederic
Coach Sacco explained how the forward’s trade was not to blame for their loss. Meanwhile, the players also couldn’t escape the questions about the hectic trade either. Charlie Coyle revealed how he reacted after losing his teammate ahead of the clash with Nashville. “I sent him a text and I’m sure he was getting hounded and still in shock and things like that,” said Coyle.
Yet, the fellow forward knows this is how things sometimes work in the NHL. “It stinks, that stuff happens. Part of the business, unfortunately,” the Bruins forward told reporters.
Bruin David Pastrnak had a similar reaction, “Freddy’s an amazing human being and a heckuva player. Tough kid. Obviously going to be missed by the group,” he said about Trent Frederic.

The Boston Bruins traded the forward to the New Jersey Devils, who traded him to the Oilers for unsigned draft pick Shane Lachance as per Reuters. The Edmonton Oilers also picked up another Bruin, Max Jones. Jones, who is also 27, played only seven games with Boston before departing for the Oilers. Meanwhile, Freddy has scored eight goals and seven assists this season.

However, Trent Frederic and Max Jones may just be part of a much larger shake-up at the Bruins. As per The Fourth Period, the Bruins are ready to hear offers for veterans Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha. That’s not all.
The rumors have already linked defenseman Brandon Carlo and forward Morgan Geekie with other teams. It seems the Boston Bruins may look very different next season.
