The Chicago Blackhawks dominated the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, March 4, with a thrilling win! With 5 goals and 41 saves, the Blackhawks have come out swinging like a team that caught the Kings completely off guard. Their losing streak is now extended to four games on Monday night at Chicago.

Spencer Knight emerged as the hero, who in his first debut made 41 saves on 42 shots after being traded to the Blackhawks in the last week. However, the team’s best offensive player has fallen short in their recent matches. Connor Bedard has been facing a rough patch recently. Despite leading the team in assists and points this season, he continued his recent struggles of extending his pointless streak to five games during this match.

While everyone is emphasizing the need for him to regain his scoring form to bolster the Blackhawks’ offense, the Blackhawks’ head coach Anders Sorensen has different views! Ben Pope, the Blackhawks reporter, spilled the tea on X. Even after Bedard’s zero contribution for the team’s remarking performance, Sorensen is relieved! He said, “He knows he’s getting chances; he knows he’s setting up some chances. Last game, there were a couple of plays they were a half a play away.” For him, Bedard is still doing the right things, but the puck just isn’t bouncing his way.

If we look at Bedard’s stats and records, the young star has been leading the Blackhawks in assists and points. He has scored 16 goals and made 33 assists so far, contributing to a total score of 49 for the Blackhawks. But when it comes to the recent matches and performances, his stats are concerning with a five-game no-point streak!

Even with the Blackhawks’ defeat against the Vegas Golden Knights, Bedard caught the eye of the spectators for his performance. Despite playing 22 minutes and 43 seconds, he was limited to just one shot on goal. “We had a little push to return the title a bit, but we gave up too much, honestly,” reacted the head coach after the team’s defeat. He admitted that the team’s defensive lapses were ultimately too much to overcome! Hence, when the entire team struggles, where does that leave Bedard in terms of his impact?

Connor Bedard isn’t holding back!

Bedard has been the constant target of criticism and backlash! Earlier too, when the team played their match against the Florida Panthers that led to a defeat of 5-1, the young star caught the attention of veteran Mark Messier, who didn’t hold back in criticizing Bedard’s play. He said, “He’s soft on his stick, and — I’m sorry, the excuses for a young player are over now. He has to be better than that. Sure enough, they get a power play and who goes right onto the ice? Bedard. There’s no quicker way to destroy the morale of the team than having players who don’t earn their ice-time.”

Elliotte Friedman, continued this criticism further and added his opinions by stating, “Well, number one, if I were Bedard, I would take it as a compliment. The best players of their generations, when they first got into the NHL, all of their games were picked apart, so on one level I think that is a compliment to Bedard that so much is expected of him.” But what was it for Bedard, exactly?

It was a bold statement that reflected confidence and highlighted his focus when he said, “I’m not watching broadcasts or anything. I’m playing hockey. Their job is to say what they see.” It looks like the external voices do not deter him. But it also depends on whether he can make the best out of the pressure and silence his doubters when it matters most on the ice. What do you think? Tell us in a comment below.
