All it took was a moment of brilliance where Mitch Marner’s pass found Connor McDavid in OT, who didn’t miss. As the puck rocketed into the upper right corner of the net, it shattered the hearts of every American player and fan at TD Garden, including Charlie McAvoy. The defenseman who had helped defeat Canada in their previous match could only watch with his arm in a sling.

The Boston Bruins players were among the multiple Team USA stars who didn’t play against America’s last round-robin game against Sweden. However, things escalated quickly when he checked himself into the hospital. Soon, the Boston Bruins announced that McAvoy had been ruled out of Thursday’s final. While it was a tragic end for Charlie McAvoy’s 4 Nations Face-Off campaign, his wife chose to focus on the good.

While Charlie McAvoy didn’t play in the final, his contribution helped Team USA reach that final in the first place. Kiley Sullivan expressed her pride in her Instagram story. “Can’t wait to tell Rhys all about how he got to see Dad and Grampie crush it for Team USA. So beyond proud of our guys!” Mrs. McAvoy wrote on her Instagram story.

Little Rhys Michael McAvoy, barely a month old, had big headphones to shield his ears from the noise. However, his mother ensured that baby McAvoy attended the most hyped game in international ice hockey in a long time. However, Kiley Sullivan didn’t just feel proud of her husband’s resilience but also her father’s leadership of Team USA.

After all, Rhys Michael McAvoy’s “Grampie” is none other than Team USA coach Mike Sullivan. Despite losing the game, Coach Sullivan complimented Team USA’s dogged performance in the 4 Nations championship. However, Charlie McAvoy’s NHL team the Boston Bruins didn’t feel cheerful about how one of their stars ended up with a ‘significant’ injury.

The Charlie McAvoy situation reportedly displeased the Bruins

While the 27-year-old had a dominant performance against their first clash with Canada, McVoy injured his shoulder in USA’s very first game. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman spilled the beans at the Sportsnet 590 The Fan radio station. Friedman explained that McAvoy injured his shoulder after a clash with Finland’s Joel Armia slammed him against the post.

However, Friedman explained that the Bruins reportedly believe Team USA didn’t pay as much attention as they should’ve. “He played Saturday, it looks like, with much more severe an injury than he was initially led to believe, and everybody was initially led to believe” added Friedman. In fact, the Bruins Team doctor, Dr. Peter Asnis disclosed the seriousness of what McAvoy was facing.

Dr. Asnis revealed that the player underwent an irrigation and debridement procedure at Massachusetts General Hospital, to treat his AC joint injury and the infection that developed in the following days. Naturally, it put the defenseman out of action. “He remains in the hospital, where he is being treated with IV antibiotics, and his condition is improving,” Dr. Asnis said ahead of the final.

Hence, as things stand, McAvoy is now on week-to-week consideration. This means he may not be able to jump back in when the NHL season resumes and the Bruins are not happy. “I think the people who are the angriest is the team, the Bruins,” stressed Elliotte Friedman. However, while the 4 Nations Face-Off didn’t turn out great for McAvoy, the person closest to him is ready to stand by the player during this rough patch.
