“You’ve got to find ways [to win]. Whatever way you’ve got to do it,” said the Carolina Hurricanes coach after the roller coaster ride that was their clash against the New York Islanders. Fans barely had time to breathe during the edge-of-the-seat thriller. The Canes and the Islanders combined for 10 goals and scored in every period before Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho put the final exclamation mark on the game.

All eyes were on Jarvis, who scored twice and notched an assist during the 6-4 match. Jarvis had also reached a special milestone. He equaled Kevyn Adams‘ (former Canes player-turned-Shares GM) single-season franchise record of five shorthand goals. So when one report asked if the 23-year-old would follow in Adams’ footsteps to become a GM, the Canes star had the most hilarious reaction.

Seth Jarvis almost couldn’t believe what the reporter had just asked him. “Me being a GM?” repeated the NHL player as if to confirm he wasn’t hearing things. When the interviewer affirmed, Jarvis had a two-word reply. “F— no!” Seth Jarvis said it with such conviction that the entire room burst into laughter. The fans watching on their screens had a similar reaction.

“I’d almost take him over Kevyn Adams in Buffalo right now,” one fan commented on the clip, adding another layer of humor to the 23-year-old’s response. Why, you ask? Well, the Buffalo Sabres GM is in his fifth season with the team, and let’s just say the Sabres haven’t fared well this season at all. They’re in last place in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference.

Things barely get any better when looking at the league standings, with the Sabres currently in the 28th position. So it’s no wonder Sabres fans would want to take a chance with 23-year-old Seth Jarvis as their new GM. Yet, you may be wondering how a single hilarious response could make the fans praise his sense of humor so much. Well, that’s because it’s far from the only time he’s had the hockey community in splits.

Signature Seth Jarvis humor

One of the reasons people found Jarvis’ response so funny is because the NHL star’s reaction was utterly unfiltered. The player didn’t even hesitate to think whether what he was about to say would qualify for family-friendly television. And that’s why fans flooded the comments section with responses like: “It’ll be a sad day if Jarvy ever gets media-trained.”

The message was clear. The hockey community wanted Seth Jarvis to keep his sense of humor. This signature sense of humor is also why even people who don’t support the Carolina Hurricanes on the ice still prefer the Winnipeg native. “I do not like the Carolina Hurricanes. I really like Seth Jarvis,” wrote one fan. Then again, why won’t the community love a player who even jokes with the fans?

The 23-year-old has been dishing out his humorous takes for quite a while now. In fact, Jarvis took to X to crack some jokes with the fans when he was sidelined with an upper-body injury in November 2024. The Canadian hockey star didn’t refrain when answering even the most nonsensical questions with a huge dollop of humor during his impromptu Q&A session.

So when one fan asked what the outcome of a fight between a taco and a grilled would be, he had a hilariously detailed answer. “I’m glad you asked after doing some deep thinking,” Jarvis wrote in his response. He then broke down exactly how a grilled cheese would wipe the floor with a taco. “I firmly believe a taco would stand no chance to a grilled cheese,” Seth Jarvis said.

“The cheesiness of the grilled cheese would be near impossible to open as for the taco the insides would just fall out, and the shell would crack,” explained Jarvis. And this is just one of multiple hilarious responses by the Canes player. And it’s exactly the sense of humor that has fans excited about an upcoming documentary featuring Jarvis.

“Is Jarvis on the next season of that Amazon show?” one fan inquired. “The documentary-style one where they follow the players around? If not, he should be – everything I see from him is funny as f—,” added the fan. The netizen wasn’t the only one with this opinion. NHL player-turned-analyst Paul Bissonnette had a similar take on Seth Jarvis when the news surfaced.

“Brady Tkachuk and Seth Jarvis are two unreal gets for a new season of FACEOFF. This guy is a cartoon character and is a gamer. Great showing at the 4 nations. Helps for Olympic roster consideration. Can’t wait to watch it play out.” BizNasty posted on X about the upcoming season. The original FACEOFF: Inside the NHL season was a big hit with hockey fans.

While we don’t have a specific release date, the NHL reported that a six-episode second season was coming in 2025. However, some fans didn’t just live in the present, but explained how this clip could still be hilarious a decade from today. “Can’t wait until he becomes a GM in 10 years and this clip resurfaces, LOL!” commented one fan. Yet, that’s an outcome that remains to be seen.

There’s no telling whether the Canes’ player will change his mind about taking a GM’s job in the future. Yet for now, he is solely focused on his hockey career, and that intent was on full display during the clash against the Islanders. Seth Jarvis’s shorthand screamer gave Carolina the lead at 17:29 of the second period after Sebastian Aho’s equalizer in that same period. He once again broke the stalemate in the final period. So it’s safe to say the fans will enjoy his sense of humor for years to come.
