Rookies certainly draw a significant amount of focus in the NHL. Usually when a player is called up from the minor leagues, it presents an opportunity for them to make a claim for a spot on the team and develop their skills. Now, the New York Rangers boast a substantial number of talented players on their roster, but as the team aims to secure a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs this season, they need all the help they can get. But fans are questioning if that’s really the right move or if they are hindering the development of their young talent, Brett Bedard.

As the regular season winds down, the focus shifts to the pursuit of that elusive wild card spot, a challenge that promises to be anything but straightforward. Focus now turns to the newcomers, who are expected to deliver their best in this quest.

Recently on X, NYR Louie expressed their views, saying, “We can debate all day if Brett Berard should or shouldn’t be playing for the Rangers. But what we can’t debate is that Berard is getting more out of playing 20 minutes a night in Hartford than sitting in the press box. Org just seems to always make the wrong decision.”

All eyes are on New York Rangers forward Brett Berard. He stands alongside fellow newcomers such as Adam Edstrom, Matt Rempe, and others. That being said, this is his first NHL season with the team. What are his statistics? In 28 games, Berard has managed to score just 4 goals and provide 4 assists, totaling 8 points.

The social media post takes aim at the New York Rangers’ management of the prospect. The management must consider whether the rookie is ready to compete at the NHL level or if he should continue his development with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL. The perspectives of the fans were also quite understandable when it came to the Rangers’ decision on the matter.

Fans are concerned about the New York Rangers’ future

The growth of a rookie is significantly crucial. Certainly, any organization, be it the New York Rangers or another, ought to prioritize the development of their young talent. But one fan felt that Berard wasn’t getting the development he needed in the NHL. “If NYR not playing him for over 10 Mins a game send him to AHL.” It’s a fair assessment; shouldn’t Berard be getting consistent game time in the AHL over being a bench warmer in the NHL?

Acknowledging the sentiment expressed in the social media post, this fan commented, “Always seems to make the wrong decisions.” With their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, it’s understandable why fans have been taking shots at the franchise.

Similarly, another fan blamed the coaching staff for the team’s struggles. The fan took a moment to address coach Peter Laviolette directly, stating, “This is Lavi. Look what he did in Washington. Same story,” referring to the tough time Laviolette had with the Washington Capitals.

One supporter remarked, “The Rangers need to change how they develop prospects. It’s getting out of hand at this point.” Considering the path they’ve taken with Berard, it seems like this critique too is justified.

Nonetheless, one fan offered an alternative viewpoint, writing, “Dude who cares we have much bigger problems.” In a way this is true too. As the team looks to chase a playoff spot, is the game time of one rookie really that big a concern? After all, Berard has time to develop, something the Blueshirts don’t have in an ultra-competitive Metropolitan Division.
