The Boston Bruins are in ruins. Despite having six Stanley Cups under their belt, the Bruins are currently going through one of the toughest times in their history, and the fans, understandably, aren’t entirely thrilled about it. David Pastrnak & Co. are currently at the bottom of the Atlantic Division with 69 points in 76 games. And the fans? Irked, to keep things PG.

At the Centre Bell on Thursday, the Habs handed the Bruins a 4-1 defeat, further complicating things for Joe Sacco‘s boys. With that, one could argue that Boston is having its worst season in recent years. Naturally, the fans of the hockey heavyweights have a thing or two to say about their woes.

The Boston Bruins reach a milestone, and not in a good way

Spittin’ Chiclets took to X on April 3 to highlight the rough patch David Pastrňák and the others are in right now. Captioned, “Not a fun time to be a Bruins fan,” read the post. With their latest loss to the Canadiens, the Boston Bruins are currently on a 10-match losing streak for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

In its inaugural season (1924-25), the Bruins lost 11 consecutive games, a losing record that stands to this day. However, looking at how things are unfolding, one would be hard-pressed to speculate that the century-old statistic might be in danger of being trumped. The loss to Montreal has also pushed Boston to the bottom of the Eastern Conference, adding insult to the injury that is their hopeless campaign.

“The other teams are just hungrier than ours. They want to win more, that’s the bottom line,” said Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov as he reflected on his team’s form. Ahead of Thursday’s game, Joe Sacco had said that he intended to make the Canadiens’ “chances of progressing into the playoffs a little bit harder.” It was evident that Sacco was clutching at straws with the comment, yet the idea was admirable. But after the game, his thoughts regarding how the Bruins need “60 minutes of consistent hockey” now and have to do it “together” bordered on the obvious. Then again, the Boston side has been getting the obvious things wrong.

The Bruins’ next match will pit them against the Hurricanes, who are currently positioned second in the Metropolitan Division. Looking at the form of Sacco’s team, many believe that they could be en route to tying their 11-match losing streak on Saturday. For obvious reasons, Boston fans are voicing their concerns.

Did trading Brad Marchand mark the beginning of the Bruins' downfall, or was it inevitable?

Bruins fans think this was “Long overdue”

Last month, the Bruins’ long-time captain and scoring powerhouse Brad Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers. The decision came after negotiations between Marchand and the Bruins came to a stalemate, and Boston decided to part ways with their iconic player. Naturally, looking at the pit that the team is in right now, some fans are debating if sending Marchand away was the right call. “They weren’t the best all season but look what happens when you trade the heart (Marchand) away from the team?” one fan didn’t beat around the bush about their take on the matter.

Before Marchand, Boston had also sacked coach Jim Montgomery after two seasons at the helm. Montgomery went on to become the new head coach for the St. Louis Blues, who are currently riding high on an 11-match winning streak. One Blues fan made an appearance under Spittin’ Chiclets only to note their elation at the Bruins’ expense. “Good thing your owners let Monty go ..Loving our 11 game win streak,” jeered the fan. Another fan, though, believes that it was time the Boston Bruins experienced something like this, and commented, “Long overdue for the Bruins to be bad.

Pulling off a tanking masterclass,” another fan sneered. The Bruins are out of the playoffs, and it seems like some NHL fans couldn’t be happier that the Boston powerhouse has hit the pothole. “prayed for days like this,” read the comment of a fan, while others view the situation as the appropriate time to start from scratch. “I’m actually loving it. Time to rebuild/retool!!” commented a fan who is all about seizing the opportunity at hand. How about you? What do you make of the Bruins’ current situation?
