The vibes at TD Garden? Fully tragic. Boston Bruins fans have officially snapped and are not even hiding it anymore. When your own arena is chanting “FIRE HIM” loudly, you know it’s bad. Don Sweeney—the man behind the team’s moves (or lack thereof)—is in the direct line of fire, and Boston fans are coming for his job.

Lauren (@bigbruinenergy), one of the realest Bruins fans out there, summed up the entire fanbase’s mood on March 4th with a brutal X post: “Bruins untouchables imo: Marchand, Pastrnak, McAvoy, Swayman, Lohrei, Poitras

Emotional support players I will cry if moved: Carlo, Zacha, Coyle, Bruins we must get rid of: Neely and Sweeney.”

And honestly? She’s not wrong. The Boston Bruins are skating like they forgot hockey has rules, sitting 26th in scoring offense with just 111 goals all season. Their power play? Literal comedy—they rank 31st in the entire league, only converting 12.4% of the time. That’s… not even close to okay for a team that still dares to call itself a contender.

The message is loud and clear: Bruins fans want Don Sweeney out. From embarrassing losses at home to completely lifeless play (shoutout that 4-0 Edmonton disasterclass), the patience is gone. Fans blame Sweeney for a boring roster, mid-trades, and clinging to a team identity that expired in 2019.

What’s your perspective on:

Bruins fans, is it time to clean house, or can Sweeney still turn this ship around?

Have an interesting take?

Boston Bruins fans are fully done with Don Sweeney, and their reactions are ruthless

One fan kept it simple but savage, chanting “SACK SWEENEY” right along with the Garden crowd. Another brought even more heat, posting, “Trade Sweeney for a team dog.” And to be honest, a golden retriever with a stick in its mouth might run a better power play right now. Facts don’t lie: Bruins went 0-for-2 on the power play against Edmonton, managing just 3 shots total. With 27.9 shots per game (21st in the NHL), the offense is barely breathing—and fans are tired of pretending that’s okay.

Another fan went straight to conspiracy mode: “Good luck, sister. Sweeney and Neely are the Jacob family darlings.” Not wrong though. The Jacob family (owners of the Boston Bruins) have been loyal to Sweeney and President Cam Neely through thin and thin. Even after the team fully embarrassed itself by getting shut out five times already this season, ownership hasn’t made a single serious move.

Then came the existential crisis comment: “No one is untouchable on a team that fails to make the playoffs. It’s the ownership that has to go — winning 1 Stanley Cup in 51 years. Yes, Sweeney and Neely should go too.” Brutal history check, but they’re right. This franchise is 1-for-51 on Cups since 1974, and the last legit playoff run ended in Game 7 heartbreak back in 2019. Fast forward to now? They’re clinging to third in the Atlantic purely because they’ve played more games than Tampa Bay—not because they’re actually good.

Finally, one fan went full GM mode themselves, absolutely torching Lauren’s list: “Bad list. Pastrnak, McAvoy, and Lohrei are my only untouchables. Swayman? I don’t care, he sucks right now. Marchand, Carlo, Coyle, Neely, and Sweeney must go.” A bold take, but let’s break it down. David Pastrnak is practically dragging the Boston Bruins’ entire offense on his back with 32 goals and 43 assists so far this season. On the back end, Charlie McAvoy is clocking over 24 minutes a night as a top-pairing defenseman, with a career best of 0.59 points per game, somehow holding the fort even when the rest of the team looks like they forgot how to skate. And then there’s Mason Lohrei—the rookie bright spot—with 28 points in 57 games and 24 assists, showing actual promise in a season where “promise” feels like a long-lost concept in Boston.

Brad Marchand’s 21 goals aren’t cutting it, especially with his inconsistentness this season. Carlo’s defense holds up at times, but his offense is non-existent, and without McAvoy babysitting, he’s fully exposed. Coyle’s sitting at just 14 goals in 63 games—a brutal stat line for a 2C. And the real culprits? Neely and Sweeney, who built this disaster with trades like Lindholm (who’s been invisible) and a roster that has the 26th-ranked scoring offense in the NHL, having 27.9 shots per game and being 21st in the league.

At the end of the day, Boston Bruins fans aren’t just being dramatic—they’re spitting facts. This team is bland, boring, and badly managed. And unless Sweeney pulls a miracle out of thin air (unlikely), Boston’s future might be even uglier than this losing streak.
