The Sphere in Las Vegas is currently making headlines, as the 2024 season has several sporting events in store. The most acclaimed being the highly awaited 2024 NHL Draft, scheduled to take place on June 28 and 29. But the grand music and entertainment arena in Paradise, Nevada, has a star line-up of events ready to be the cynosure of all eyes.
Madison Square Garden Company had announced the spherical project in 2018, and expected the construction to end by 2020. The governing body set the initial opening date in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the work flow and supply. The Sphere has been the talk since its opening. But what drew more interest is that the 2024 NHL Draft will make its appearance as the first sporting event. Before the draft structure follows that of NFL and NBA, this NHL event will be the last of its kind. However, the sports-related events in Sphere are not going to stop at NHL.
UFC President Dana White took to the media to announce that a UFC fight will take place on September 16, 2024. Speaking of the significance of the date, he said, “Mexican Independence Day, we are booked for the Sphere.” In fact, even Formula 1’s recent Las Vegas Grand Prix had bits of the Sphere featured in the series. Moreover, the NBA has also run it’s in-season tournament and summer league in July.
But all eyes are on the NHL event, that is just 6 months away from now. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has set his mind to embrace the next-generation venue in Las Vegas with his team.

Though the final contracts of the deal have not been signed, Gary Bettman assured the world that the event is certain. He said, “I think it’ll be a pretty well-viewed event, both in terms of the draft itself and the viral use of the Sphere inside and outside. So we think it’ll be dramatic and compelling.”
He further added,“The Sphere is a spectacular property, so I think both for the Sphere and for us this will be a good event to show yet another capability of this magnificent theater.”
