The Chicago Blackhawks are gearing up to take on the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center. Upon closer examination of the standings, one may observe their position at the bottom of the Western Conference. Neither team has managed to achieve standout performances this season, but at this juncture, the focus shifts away from their potential to reach the Stanley Cup playoffs. So, what’s all the excitement about the game? First and foremost, it’s hockey! What about the second?
According to Blackhawks on CHSN on X, “Just a couple first overall draft picks going head-to-head tonight.” Who are these two rookies? All eyes will be on Connor Bedard of the Hawks and Macklin Celebrini of the Sharks. These two will certainly attract significant attention, but what is the reason behind it?

As is often the case, blame was directed towards the broadcasting sector. Since last year, Hawks fans have been receiving footage from the Chicago Sports Network (CHSN). The network took over from NBC Sports Chicago but has faced challenges in obtaining coverage from major cable providers, particularly Comcast/Xfinity.

Recall the moment when CHSN president Jason Coyle made a commitment? He stated, “We are excited to offer Chicago sports fans a one-of-a-kind digital product enabling immediate access to live games and a complement of personalized, on-demand content.” His vision extended beyond just hockey for the Chicago audience, as these subscription packages provided access to the league games of all three teams (Bulls, Blackhawks, White Sox), available with the purchase of the $29.99 package.

Only time will reveal whether these broadcasting issues will be resolved.
