A hockey ice rink is never a stranger to random tussles and brawls breaking out between the players. When temperaments are running high and emotions are ignited, push can easily come to shove. That is exactly what happened at the Scotiabank Arena, during a match between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning. A fight broke out between the two teams and players had to be peeled off of each other by the NHL officials.

The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Tampa Bay Lighting by a killer score of 4-1. But that is not what all the hockey fans were talking about. The talk of the town, in fact, the world, was the ruckus between the two teams on the ice, especially what happened to Michael Bunting.

Michael Bunting gets shoved off the ice

The incident happened when Tampa Bay’s Pierre-Édouard Bellemar pushed Toronto Maple Leaf’s Mitch Marner into the boards. This led to a lot of Maple Leafs’ players coming to Marner’s defense. Michael Bunting was also in that crowd.

Many referees came to separate the players and break up the fight. Dan Kelly, the NHL linesman, pushed Michael Bunting to take him away from the fight. However, Dan Kelly did not stop there. He kept pushing Bunting again and again, till he was forced out of the rink by him.

While no one knows what happened on the rink, Bunting’s reaction was appropriate.

Bunting reacts to Kelly’s behavior

When Bunting was being repeatedly shoved by the linesmen Dan Kelly, his reaction was a natural one. According to Fox News, he said, “What the f–k are you doing?” In all fairness, anyone would react the same to being repeatedly shoved. However, talking about the incident later, Bunting admitted that he had moved on. Bunting said, “I think emotions just were high, and it’s hockey and gotta move on from it. It’s not really that big of a deal.”

While the internet is divided on this, Michael Bunting is not. He has no grudges against the referee for what happened during the match. Interestingly, though, Bunting did recall playing against the linesmen Dan Kelly in the past.

He said, “Yeah I played against him in the minors.” A lot of people are pondering over the question if these two have some history, because of Kelly’s aggressive pushing. Bunting’s reply to this was, “No history – I don’t know, I probably have history with everyone. No, I knew he was a former player.”
