Randall Cunningham is an NFL legend thanks to his exploits in the gridiron. He is remembered fondly for his stints at the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings. Cunningham spent the majority of his professional career with the former. Overall, he spent 16 seasons in the NFL. Now, he embarked on a different chapter of his life in familiar surroundings.

Randall Cunningham returned to his alma mater, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He played for the UNLV Rebels from 1982 until he was drafted by the Eagles in the second round as the 37th overall pick in 1985. A quarterback by trade, he also excelled in other avenues, too. It is for one such that the UNLV Rebels welcomed him onto their coaching staff.

An assistant coaching position with the track and field team at UNLV

Randall Cunningham will join the UNLV coaching staff but not for the Rebels’ football team. He was a high jumper during his high school days as well. Reportedly, he recorded 6’8″ in that arena once. The X handle Track Spice confirmed the news that Cunningham joined the coaching staff at UNLV. They wrote, “UNLV Hires NFL Great Randall Cunningham As Coach?But Not for Football. Cunningham will start an assistant coaching position with the track and field team, specifying in jumps.”

Randall Cunningham is his daughter Vashti’s high jump coach. The latter is no. 4 in US history, with a high jump record of 6’7 1/2″. She has one world high jump championship and two Olympic appearances to her name under her father’s guidance. Her sister, Grace, is a junior high jumper at UNLV.

Randall Cunningham to specialize in jumps at UNLV

Having a commendable record under his belt in the high jump, Randall Cunningham will train track and field athletes specializing in that avenue. One of them will be his daughter. It remains to be seen how far being under her father’s eye will take the younger of the Cunningham sisters.

Randall Cunningham was a legendary quarterback, according to the Eagles faithful. They remain nostalgic about the Kelly Green jerseys sported by their team during the 80s and 90s. Week 7 of the current season saw the return of that hue when the Eagles took on the Miami Dolphins. Cunningham was present at the relaunch of that kit. The best of luck to him in his latest venture. Given his track record, it is safe to say he will make a solid impression, at the very least.
