The National Football League has come a long way since its inception more than a century ago. Modern-day NFL has undergone substantial modifications concerning its player; their safety, the fines as well as staggering paychecks. The first pay limit was a modest $550,000 maximum that all NFL teams distributed amongst each other. The 2023 salary cap was set at a record $224.8 million per team which is a $16.6 million increase since last year. Recently, San Fransisco 49ers‘ QB Brock Purdy opened up about living with a roommate in the third-most expensive state.

On his weekly podcast alongside his co-host, former NFL great Shannon Sharpe expressed his dismay at the quarterback’s lifestyle. When Sharpe’s reaction became viral, the internet had mixed reactions, one of which he took on and schooled.

The most recent episode of Nightcap with Unc and Ocho quickly gained public attention when Sharpe said, “I’ll live in 500 square feet in HELL, I ain’t sharing my place with no man,” in response to 49ers’ QB sharing an apartment with a fellow teammate. To this, a tweet was posted in response by @SamChotty who wrote, “Shannon out of touch with reality haha.” The comeback didn’t sit well with the NFL host who started off by saying, “Actually, I’m not.”

He and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson produced this drama from their newest ‘49ers Dominate, Bengals Bounce Back, Drake vs. Joe Budden’ episode. Sharpe added to his reply to the critic and said, “He doesn’t have a typical job and doesn’t earn typical income. He chooses 2 have a roommate and that’s fine. The notion that he makes 900k and can’t afford a 1 bed room apartment just isn’t true.”

The San Francisco 49ers selected Purdy with the final pick in the NFL Draft in 2022, he was dubbed Mr. Irrelevant. The Iowa State’s star athlete presently earns $870,000 annually, including a $19,252 signing bonus. However, in an interview with TODAY, he confessed, “I still drive my Toyota Sequoia. And other than that, it’s pretty simple.” While discussing these living conditions Sharpe expressed some serious disapproval.

The offensive teammates’ residence is shared by Purdy, according to him. “So he and I are still splitting rent,” he said. Two mature men unless in college “shouldn’t be sharing a room,” asserted Sharpe in the episode. Do you realize how much it costs to live in San Francisco, the six-time Pro Bowl winner Johnson retorted. Sharpe answered angrily, “I don’t care.” Johnson posed the question right away, “He never said his roommate was a guy did he?” at this moment when both hosts were giving it their all.

Johnson shouted, “Aghhhh stay with me,” as he spotted his win point, to which Sharpe retorted, “Stop it.” “It’s a woman, ….girlfriend,” said Jonson resting his case. Finally, Sharon said, “When I come home the only dirty drawers piled up in the corner gonna be mine ain’t no other joker.”
