Four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles and NFL star Jonathan Owens have been dating for over two years now. After meeting online during the pandemic, the couple have stuck together and even got engaged in February 2022. Both Biles and Owens have supported each other in their careers. However, sometimes the competitive nature of an athlete can trickle into their relationships. Such was the case with Biles and Owens.

The Houston Texans’ safety thought that football required more athleticism than his fiance’s sport. However, unsurprisingly, the Olympian didn’t agree with his take.

Simone Biles believes gymnastics is more demanding

Simone Biles did not like comparing gymnastics and football. In an interview with Sports Illustrated in 2021, Biles said, “He drives me insane with this d**n question,”. Simone explained that “gymnastics is obviously harder! I could go out there and learn how to throw a football.” Biles also said that Owens tried to justify the argument by saying, “Every time they get hit, it’s like a car crash!” However, the Rio Olympics star countered her fiance by saying, ”You’re literally a safety, you don’t get hit. If you get hit, you’re not doing your job.”

Back when the two started dating in 2020, neither clearly understood the other’s sport. While Owens didn’t understand all the different elements of gymnastics, Biles wasn’t privy to the nuances of football, either.

Biles believes gymnastics is the most competitive sport. According to the Olympic gold medalist, gymnastics combines speed, power, agility, balance, etc. like no other sport. Biles also said that a gymnast has to practice over 30 hours a week just to nail a 4 minute routine at the Olympics.

Both gymnastics and football are quite different. While football is a full contact team game, gymnastics is more about individual performances. Biles’ sport of choice also has many unique apparatuses, and each has its own set of rules.

Owens did not know how famous Biles was

Jonathan Owens didn’t know about Simone Biles’ popularity when he saw her on social media. It took an Uber eats commercial and a few little girls being awestruck at meeting Biles in public for Owens to believe how famous Biles actually was. The fact Owens knew nothing about Biles was quite unusual. So much so that Biles’ friends even joked how the Texans safety must not have turned the TV on in 2016.

While the Texan star’s question may have annoyed Biles, it is safe to say that it was nothing more than some banter among two athletes. In the two years since they met, Biles and Owens have gone through a lot and grown together. After their engagement, fans are eager to see when the couple will finally tie the knot.
