Home/Gymnastics

For Simone Biles, 2024 is really getting better with each day. While she’s geared up for a return to the Olympics in Paris, good news awaits her back home, too. Her husband and NFL player, Jonathan Owens, made quite the stride in his professional career as he reportedly signed a $4.5 million dollar, two-year contract with the Chicago Bears. Reports also stated that he’ll receive a $750,000 signing bonus, $1,500,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,375,000 (an official confirmation still awaits, though).

With increased yearly income and additional endorsements, the sporty celebrity couple entered the new year milking more money than ever. But is Jonathan now overpowering his gymnastics master wife, having secured the biggest deal of his professional career? Well, let’s find out!

How much are Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens worth?

Jonathan Owens started his professional career with the Arizona Cardinals. He then moved to the Houston Texans in 2021 with a two-year contract worth $1.175 million, including a $10,000 signing bonus, and an average annual salary standing at $587,500. In 2022, his base salary further increased to $895,000. Just the next year, the safety moved again, to the Green Bay Packers on a one-year deal worth $1.01 million.

But now, with some more bling, thanks to his new deal, Owens is on Cloud nine. On the other hand, as per Forbes, seven-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles was worth a staggering $7.1 million in 2023. This included a salary/winnings amount of $100,000, and endorsements of $7 million, from brands including Coca-Cola, global apparel retail company Gap, General Mills, GKElite, Athleta, Visa, United Airlines, MasterClass, and Uber Eats, among others. She also featured at #15 on The World’s Highest-Paid Female Athletes that same year.

Notably, the 26-year-old earned way less than current Olympians do during her first Olympic stint at the 2016 Games in Rio. She received $25,000 for each of her four gold medals and $10,000 for the bronze, for a total of $110,000 for all other medals. On the contrary, as per an NBC report from 2021, winners were paid $37,500 for winning gold, $22,500 for silver, and $15,000 for Bronze at Tokyo.

While Biles’s earnings have fluctuated greatly and ranks well over Owens though, one constant aspect is the growth in Owens and her success. The couple also own a $2 million mansion in Houston and are currently working on another house in the same city, worth the same.

But now that Owens is off to a new path, the pair’s income will see a significant increase.Depending on Biles’s success that awaits the Paris Olympics, her medals and the juicy deals that would follow shortly after, the couple might just be able to break the bank this year. And even the defensive back’s new team is in on that plan, as they recently gave Owens a leave from training camp, just so he can cheer for his wife in person!

Biles and Owens are inseparable!

The Chicago Bears are not one to stand in the way of Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles! After the latter secured her third Olympic trip on June 30, she informed the world: “The Bears are actually granting him a couple days off from training camp, so he’ll be there, yes — for just a short little time.” While the exact date for Owens’ arrival in Paris is unknown, he will probably be in the stands as women’s gymnastics events kick off on July 28, and conclude on August 5.

And with such a busy schedule, the gymnast realized how momentous this was. “Anytime we can show up for one another in support, we just get super excited because our schedules don’t align that much,” she further said.

The Chicago Bears’ training camp starts on July 16 for rookies at Halas Hall, Illinois. So Owens will most probably miss four sessions scheduled on July 27, July 30, August 4 and 6.

Her husband, on the other hand, was left in awe of Biles’ achievements as he took to social media to shower praises. On the same day, he wrote on Instagram: “No words can describe how proud of you I am baby 🤎,” he wrote on July 1. “Just knowing all the work that you put in and everything that you’ve been through, and to still come back and be as dominant as ever, I was speechless. I’m so thankful to be apart of this journey with you, and I cant wait to be able to watch you out there in Paris. I’m so happy for you babe!!!! 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷 Cheers to going to your third Olympic Games!!!!!! Just sounds so surreal being able to say my wife is the best to EVER do it, how did I get so lucky 😌 I love you so much🤞🏽🤞🏽.”

Surely, Biles will show the world what she’s capable of, once again. Especially, after Tokyo, she’d determined to. Are you excited?
