Former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe recently sat for a conversation with other ex-NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson for Shannon’s podcast Nightcap. With due relevance, came the name of Taylor Swift. The 12-time Grammy winner singer has lately made news for her appearance in the NFL matches. A potential romantic involvement with Travis Kelce is in the air. However, this time the matter is probably more exciting. The two former NFL players speculated the possibility of a Taylor Swift Super Bowl halftime show and its outcome for the NFL. Johnson was quick to point out that the move may be a “chess not checkers” move by the NFL.

Taking the conversation further, Sharpe revealed a stat where teen viewership was up by 53% in the match where Taylor Swift appeared. To this again Johnson cryptically said the same phrase while also adding, “The NFL knows what they are doing. They are smart!”

The fact is that any such move by the NFL could be a calculated strategic play not only to improve halftime entertainment but also to expand its fan base. Swift brings with her a devoted and diverse following of Swifties, and her performance could draw fans who might not typically tune in for the football solitary. Moreover, it would be considered a chess move by the NFL to seize a larger share of the audience. And we can not really discard the probability altogether given Taylor’s recent involvement with the NFL

Although neither Swift nor Kelce has spilled the beans on the rumors. Going by a Taylor Swift song, the situation is like, “It’s a love story, baby just say, ‘Yes!‘”. However, if Swift’s newfound interest in the NFL finally draws her to the shows, that will be undoubtedly a win-win situation for the sport. We are keeping our fingers crossed!
