Sharpe asked him, “You look at Jim…he was as big; I mean the range that he has: Ace Ventura, The Mask, Truman. I mean, you look at what he was… why hasn’t he been…why hasn’t he been as active recently as he was?” Davidson, having worked with Carrey, replied, “I only know from my personal standpoint. He’s done what he wanted to do…he’s he’s hit his pinnacle, he’s made as much money as he can make or whatever, right? I just know him as a person, right? … was one of my best friends right, and um, he just wants to become a better person and do better things…”
Adding on, Davidson said, “…it’s about what’s going on with him on the inside because he knows that those outside things aren’t going to fix you. Right, so he strives to just stay on what got him there, right? You know knowledge of his family, where grew up, you know just all of that stuff that counts.” As Tommy Davidson opened up about his acting career on the show, he also gave his take on the famous Oscar incident, one which shook the world.
