Dave Portnoy has commented at length about singer Taylor Swift’s rumored relationship with Travis Kelce. The Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end took to the field at the MetLife Stadium to face the New York Jets. Helping the Chiefs prevail in a tight game, Kelce averaged ten yards per reception. Even so, Portnoy was unhappy with one key choice made by his quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He was far from the only one, though. Portnoy dragged Taylor Swift into the equation, as well.

The Chiefs blew a 17-point lead in what appeared to be a one-sided affair at one point. Patrick Mahomes played a key role in that spiral. The Chiefs had to hold on by the skin of their teeth for the win. Bettors stood to gain in the event of a convincing win. To give credit, the Jets fought hard in the second half to get back into the game. Without meaning to, Mahomes aided in that endeavor.

Mahomes’ strange decision with Taylor Swift watching

Patrick Mahomes had a slightly indifferent game. He threw one touchdown and two interceptions throughout while passing for ‌203 yards. Additionally, he rushed 51 yards and could have added more there. When he had the chance to add to the touchdown tally, he opted not to do so. That decision earned the displeasure of Portnoy.

The self-styled ‘El Presidente’ launched a tirade aimed at the quarterback on Twitter. He also referred to Taylor Swift, who watched the game, as another person possibly irked by that choice. Portnoy styled Mahomes a coward in the popstar’s eyes.

Toward the final seconds of the game, a fumble by opposing quarterback Zach Wilson proved crucial. The possibility of a rush touchdown loomed for Mahomes. Instead of going for it, the quarterback slid instead. Had he scored, those betting on the Chiefs would have earned millions.

Losses incurred in the millions

According to BetMGM via Action Network, around 90 percent of the money was placed on the Chiefs winning by more than a touchdown. The slender margin of victory cost the bettors millions of dollars. Per one estimate, bettors placed as much as $80 million on the spread. A touchdown and the ensuing extra point in the final seconds could have covered it. In the end, it was not to be.

Taylor Swift had reason to be happy as her rumored beau walked away with the win. Unfortunately, for the vast majority, the same is untrue. Up next, the Chiefs face a trip to Minnesota while the Jets travel to Colorado.

While taking nothing away from the Jets’ spirited fightback, Mahomes may have ended the game as more villain than hero. The Chiefs failed to do the bettors a much-needed favor. They lost millions. Patrick Mahomes, while unaware of the goings-on, made a choice that proved to be to their detriment. As Taylor Swift and other celebrities watched on, Mahomes opted to safeguard the win. He was one of a select few who won at the end of the game.
