Stephen A. Smith has been around for a long time. In 55 years, he has seen many a high, perhaps just as many lows. Smith shared a clip from his eponymous show on X, formerly known as Twitter. In the same, he quoted Dallas Cowboys? quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott?s words were from a dark period in his life.

Dak Prescott was depressed at one point. That point fell a couple of days before his brother passed. Jace Prescott committed suicide in 2020. He, too, was depressed as a result of the passing of their mother, Peggy, in 2013. Peggy Prescott succumbed to Stage 4 colon cancer. Stephen A. Smith empathized with the quarterback as he too lost his mother, Janet, in 2017.

Stephen A. Smith lets Dak Prescott know he is not alone

Stephen A. Smith admittedly knew what it was like to lose someone very close to him. Smith said, ?… when Dak Prescott said that about his brother, I could relate.? He had to combat depression following the loss of his mother. Smith added that he knew what it was like to try to see in the darkness that ensued.

Stephen A. Smith knew what it was like to go down that rabbit hole. According to Smith, that was one of the worst times of his life. He said, ?I don?t want that brother to ever feel that he?s in that kind of abyss.? Stephen A. Smith sent his best to Dak Prescott. He also stressed he did not want the quarterback to think he was on his own.

In Smith?s own words, ?If I?m being totally honest, I know the feeling. I lost the greatest human being I?ve ever known. And that was Janet Smith, my mother.? Stephen A. Smith considered her the best person he had the privilege of knowing. He also added what got him through that time was therapy.

As Smith put it, ?I never thought about killing myself. But for two years, every single day at some moment in time, I wished I was dead. But the part about me that I couldn?t move beyond for so long, where I actually had to go to therapy, when the casket was lowering into the ground. It was over and I wanted to die. And I knew that for the rest of my life, I would never ever, ever have anyone like that again.? Janet Smith, too, had cancer.

Dak Prescott wrestled with depression following the passing of his brother and fortunately, ended up with on the bright side of life. This story reminds us of the fact that how hard the situations might be, one must always look to find ways to heal oneself.
