Home/NFL

The New England Patriots are in free fall. In 12 games played in the NFL this season, they have won just two. That leaves them rooted to the foot of the AFC East table. Additionally, they lost each of their last five games. In the last three, they scored a combined total of 13 points. Given that, it is no surprise their staunchest fan, Dave Portnoy, got tired of defending them.

Dave Portnoy’s football know-how is questionable, at best. He saw the second coming of the legendary Tom Brady in Mac Jones, after all. Comparing the most decorated football player in history with someone as inconsistent as Jones was a stretch for any ordinary football fan. However, he again came out in support of Mac Jones lately.

After the Patriots’ latest loss, a 6-0 reverse against the Los Angeles Chargers, Dave Portnoy took to X. He wrote, “Maybe, just maybe, Mac Jones was never the problem, and this is the worst Patriots team ever.” The loss, which came courtesy of a pair of Cameron Dicker field goals, saw Mac Jones rooted to the bench. Bailey Zappe, who played in his stead, could not influence proceedings.

Dave Portnoy’s argument appears to hold a little water, given coach Bill Belichick does not appear to trust Jones all that much. This season, there were times when he either hooked Jones at half-time or benched him altogether. After playing a stellar role in their second triumph, Jones appears to have faded away.

El Presidente’s new Super Bowl favorites floundering

Dave Portnoy maintained many a time Mac Jones has what it takes to win the Patriots a Super Bowl. Given their form, that prediction will not come true this season. In that case, Portnoy announced a new favorite to claim the Super Bowl, the Cincinnati Bengals. At the time he made that announcement, they were on a four-game winning streak. Ever since, they’ve lost three in a row.

Though a never-say-die fan, Dave Portnoy bet a hefty sum on the Bengals’ Super Bowl success. Apart from that loss, he also lost big after betting on the Buffalo Bills beating the Philadelphia Eagles. Portnoy had the Eagles as fifth on his list of new Super Bowl favorites. The previous four positions were occupied by the Bengals, who are at the foot of the AFC North table. It remains to be seen who Portnoy backs next.
