Dave Portnoy is nothing if not loyal. His loyalties in college football lie with his alma mater, the University of Michigan. The Wolverines emerged victorious in the Big Ten Conference championship game. They will face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl. But for a twist of fate, they would have faced the Florida State University Seminoles. FSU will face the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl instead.

The Seminoles ended the regular season unbeaten. Their 13-0 record catapulted them to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship. Even so, they were passed over by the College Football Playoff selection committee. In their stead, the University of Alabama will go to the Rose Bowl playoff semifinal. That game will be contested on New Year’s afternoon. Dave Portnoy announced his solidarity with FSU.

Dave Portnoy took to his X handle. He advocated that FSU willingly give the Orange Bowl a miss. Portnoy made his feelings on the matter clear as day. He used the following words, “FSU should boycott the Orange Bowl. They don’t owe anybody anything. They got f**ked. F**k them back.”

The spate of injuries suffered at quarterback by FSU was named as the primary reason for the committee’s choice. Even so, they ended the season unbeaten. It was not the first time Dave Portnoy expressed distaste with the committee’s decision. In another tweet, he made it clear that FSU was wronged. He further questioned the point of playing any matches in the first place. FSU coach Mike Norvell said the same.

Mike Norvell disgusted by the committee’s decision

The FSU head coach said, “I am disgusted and infuriated with the committee’s decision today to have what was earned on the field taken away because a small group of people decided they knew better than the results of the games. What is the point of playing games? Do you tell players it is okay to quit if someone goes down?” Dave Portnoy stood with Mike Norvell all the way.
