As the Rose Bowl draws closer, Dave Portnoy once again affirms his place in Michigan’s corner. The Wolverines will face the Alabama Crimson Tides in the football playoff. In a recent talk show, the Barstool Sports owner claimed that his alma mater would mop the floor with Alabama. However, not everyone was on board with the idea and the debate got intense as fans of both teams made their opinions clear.

With the SEC (Southeastern Conference) picking Alabama over Florida State, the Big Ten powerhouse Michigan faces a difficult task ahead. However, in the recent event, Portnoy was seen fuming and vocal about Michigan’s chances.

In a post on X, Dave Portnoy shared a heated exchange between himself and Alabama fan Brandon Walker. Portnoy declared, “Brandon is one of the biggest SEC dummies there is”. During the show, Portnoy accused the SEC of being partial to their decision to put Alabama instead of Florida State in the final spot in the playoffs. He said that pricing the Crimson Tides would make the match more interesting, and that was the only reason for the Wolverines to gear up for a tough battle.

On the other hand, Walker reminded Portnoy that the latter and Michigan players were all hoping to face Florida in the Rose Bowl. But the change in the plans made them horrified. “You were begging for Florida State“, underscored Walker as Portnoy denied believing that Alabama posed any threat to the Big Ten legends. Despite this, Dave called the SEC “dummies“, who were trying to alter the narrative after Florida’s inability to make the cut.

The Barstool owner didn’t stop there and attributed Walker’s adamant perception to the latter’s Mississippi background. As Portnoy maintained, “Michigan would beat the p*** out of Alabama“, Walker proclaimed that Alabama would be the ones to go on to win the national finals.

Portnoy waits for his luck to finally turn around

Portnoy’s staunch support of the Michigan team can be comprehended given the unfortunate series of events he’s recently experienced. Misplaced wagers on the Cincinnati Bengals have cost him a staggering amount of money after the Baltimore Ravens thrashed Joe Burrow’s team. Portnoy has been fuming about Burrow’s alleged injury being brushed under the carpet ahead of the match and has demanded disciplinary action against the Bengals.

His belief in the Duke Blu Devils also cost him significantly after the Arkansas Razorbacks decimated Duke. Now, as the Rose Bowl looks to put the Wolverines back in action on January 1st, Portnoy hopes his college backs him up with the same enthusiasm with which he defends them.
