Dave Portnoy is a diehard fan of the New England Patriots. He defended them during their worst-ever run at this point in a regular season. They are presently 2-8 for the current season. They will face the New York Giants on November 26 next. The Giants are also 2-8 for the season but that could worsen against the Washington Commanders tomorrow. Given the Patriots’ downfall, Portnoy backed a different team to win the Super Bowl.
Dave Portnoy named the Cincinnati Bengals as his new Super Bowl favorite. In fact, he placed a bet on the Bengals winning the Super Bowl. At that point, they were one of the form teams in the NFL, having won four in a row to post a 5-3 record. Presently, they are 5-5 and they lost star quarterback Joe Burrow for the remainder of the season. As a result, Portnoy stands to lose $100,000 and has designs for a class action lawsuit against both the NFL and the Bengals.

Dave Portnoy took to his X handle to vent his frustrations after it was revealed. Joe Burrow tore a ligament in his throwing wrist. Portnoy alleged that the quarterback’s injury was kept under wraps. Had he known, the self-styled El Presidente claimed he would not have bet a massive sum on the Bengals. He wrote, “I’m filing a class action lawsuit against the Bengals and NFL for lying about the injury report. There is no shot I put 100k hard-earned dollars on the Bengals if I knew Joe Burrow was injured going into the game. This committee owes me an apology!”

Dave Portnoy bet $67,000 earlier on the Bengals winning the Super Bowl. If they won it, Portnoy stood to earn a major seven-figure windfall. Now, he stands to incur a sizeable loss in the bargain. He also placed a bet of $100,000 on the outcome of the game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens emerged victorious by a 34-20 scoreline. They occupy the top spot in the AFC North while the Bengals remain at the foot of that table.

Bengals’ chances look slim without Joe Burrow
The Bengals’ chances do not look great without Joe Burrow, however. Ever since 2020, they are 2-5 without their starting quarterback. Burrow completed 11 of 17 attempted passes and threw a touchdown in the second quarter, as well. That took him to 15 touchdowns overall for the season. He will not get the chance to add to that tally, sadly. It was not the first time Burrow was injured this season. He took a while to get going after missing pre-season with a calf strain. The blow came after he had found his best form in recent weeks.

Dave Portnoy is not the most reliable chap when it comes to football know-how. He saw the second coming of the legendary Tom Brady in Mac Jones. Portnoy reiterated that every time he got the chance. Those few words say a lot. He discounted the growing mountain of evidence under his nose in that regard. It remains to be seen if Portnoy backs a different team for the rest of the season or if he sticks with the Bengals.
