When Berlin joined, the Oilers were already up 5-1 and were inching close to victory. Thus when Berlin was allowed to play, it was a crucial moment. Showering him praise, one of the admirers on Facebook wrote, “He’s a goalie. Not a zamboni driver. Thanks for helping the team.” One of the users also congratulated the team for giving Berlin the opportunity. “I am so proud of the team’s leadership in giving him some ice time! Such a simple gesture that goes so far!” read one of the comments. Knowing how well Berlin played under the pressure, one of his fans wrote, “This made my night. Class act. Never been so nervous for a goal tender before 🤣.”
Berlin had to step up and replace experienced player Stuart Skinner when the latter was ruled out for illness. Too late for the team to call up one of the regular goalies; Berline was called to the rim. Berlin, who was signed to an amateur tryout, was not expecting to play in place of an experienced goalie like Jackie Campbell. However, as destiny had planned already, Berlin found himself facing the Chicago Blackhawks. Thus, with his incredible feat, the Oilers’ fans kept showering him with their love.
Getting the much-deserved appreciation
Seeing him perform with such brilliance, one of the Facebook users was quick to write, “Amazing professional, why to treat this guy!” While others wrote, “Mind blown 👊😎” some nodded in agreement and said, “What a special day for the young man.” Needless to say, Berlin’s debut match will eventually go down as one of the best in the NHL history.
