In the NCAA championship, transgender swimmer Lia Thomas gathered much attention, both positive and negative. After her victory in the 500-yard freestyle, a lot of questions were raised about her eligibility in the women’s division. Many believe that transgender athletes have a sheer physical advantage over female athlete and including them in the competition makes it unfair. In the light of the same, here came an important decision on the matter.
A ban on transgender athletes from entering female sports
While people were presenting different opinions about what is needed to be done about the burning issue, Utah lawmakers banned transgender athletes from competing in female sports. They reversed the GOP Gov. Spencer Cox’s veto to reach the decision after there was a nationwide cultural conflict going on about the same.

After the decision to overturn Gov. Spencer Cox, Republican Sen. Daniel Thatcher said, “I cannot support this bill. I cannot support the veto override and if it costs me my seat so be it. I will do the right thing, as I always do.”

Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas has somewhat been the face of this ongoing debate. She found herself in controversy after she defeated Emma Weyant from the University of Virginia by a lead of 1.75 seconds in the 500-yard freestyle event. It further raised the speculation about Lia being able to break the records of swimming legends like Katie Ledecky soon.
