Dave Portnoy is proud of his roots. He never misses an opportunity to let the world know of the same. Portnoy is a University of Michigan graduate and always comes to the defense of his alma mater. He has been a vocal supporter of theirs during the ongoing investigation conducted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Perhaps as a consequence of said investigation, the University of Michigan parted ways with recruiting analyst Connor Stalions. Stalions had been suspended with pay once the investigation commenced. Dave Portnoy stood up to show solidarity with Stalions, following his departure from Ann Arbor. He did not stop there, though. Portnoy had more to say on the subject.

It was revealed that Stalions did not cooperate with investigators. Dave Portnoy noted that was only to be expected, given his background. Portnoy took to X, formerly Twitter, in jubilation. He named the former Marine an American hero and a Michigan man, no matter how long, to boot. Portnoy tweeted, “Of course Conor Stalions didn’t flip. He’s a Marine. He’s A Michigan Man. He’s an American Hero. We need more Connor Stalions in this world not less.”

Dave Portnoy, true to form, rushed to his alma mater’s defense. He denied the possibility of any wrongdoing. According to Portnoy, the Michigan Wolverines are starting to build a college football dynasty. Nationally ranked the second-best team in the Big Ten, they are 8-0 for this season and face the Purdue Boilermakers next. Despite their problems off the field, they have powered through, delivering impressive performances on the field. One problem they faced was the absence of their coach from the sideline for a while.

Three wins with the Wolverines’ coach away from the sideline

Coach Jim Harbaugh incurred a suspension of three games for infractions regarding the NCAA’s recruiting rules. It was served during the first three games of the season. Harbaugh was suspended by the university instead of the NCAA in what has been referred to as a self-imposed ban. The Wolverines beat the East Carolina Pirates 30-3, the Bowling Green Falcons 31-6, and the UNLV Rebels 35-7 during that time. They added more gloss to their season as time went on. This particular saga is far from over, though.

It remains to be seen how and when the matter is resolved. The NCAA investigation appears to have claimed its first casualty. The question on everyone’s lips is how many more will follow. Or will this be the end of it? Only time will tell.
