Dave Portnoy is a Michigan man, through and through. He has always exhibited pride whenever the subject of his alma mater cropped up. Well, that subject has cropped up an awful lot in recent weeks. Nearly all the coverage has been from a negative standpoint, though. That appears not to have thrown Portnoy off his stride, however.

Presently mired in controversy, the University of Michigan stands accused of stealing signs from opponents. They have also allegedly committed infractions within the framework of the NCAA’s recruiting rules. Dave Portnoy’s alma mater responded with a self-imposed three-match ban for football coach Jim Harbaugh. Additionally, they parted ways with recruiting analyst Connor Stalions. Portnoy had announced solidarity with Stalions given his stance following his resignation. The Barstool Sports CEO had more to say.

Dave Portnoy took to his X handle and shared a video. In that video, Connor Stalions was over the moon following a superb play from the Michigan Wolverines. Stalions, in a celebratory mood, yelled out the words, Oh my god. Let’s go. Come on, D. Come on, while practically jumping for joy. Simultaneously, he sported Michigan colors. Portnoy added the words, “I f**g love the fact this is the guy that keeps the entire Big 10 up at night.”

The game in question was on home turf. The Wolverines played host to the then 2-6 Purdue Boilermakers. While the Wolverines extended their unbeaten streak to nine games, they conceded multiple field goals and a touchdown for the first time this season. The Boilermakers’ offense scored the most points of anyone taking on the Wolverines so far, albeit in a 41-13 loss. Dave Portnoy had earlier spawned talk of a potential football dynasty in the making at Michigan Stadium. As their juggernaut keeps on rolling, he may have had something.

Connor Stalions adopts unforgiving stance with investigators

Connor Stalions refused to cooperate with investigations and discussions alike following his departure from Ann Arbor. For that stance, Dave Portnoy called him “an American hero.” Despite not being officially associated with the University of Michigan any longer, Stalions still appears to be a Michigan man. That elevated the former Marine’s stock further in Portnoy’s eyes.

It remains to be seen how and when this crisis reaches resolution. As things stand, the NCAA investigation is expected to outlast the length of the current season, according to the Daily Mail. Dave Portnoy’s alma mater is not out of the woods yet. The off-field turmoil has not affected their performances thus far. Presently 9-0, the Wolverines will look to extend that record when they visit the 8-1 Penn State Nittany Lions this weekend.
