Shannon Sharpe is a LeBron James fan. He considers James the G.O.A.T. as far as basketball is concerned. On his show Nightcap, he famously said he would not date or marry a woman who did not rate James highly. That is what he termed a notable deal-breaker. Sharpe has defended James against many critics. Recently, he rushed to the defense of the Los Angeles Lakers power forward once more.

On ESPN’s First Take, co-host Molly Qerim revealed ESPN had a panel of experts rank the best players for the upcoming season. LeBron James was ranked ninth on that list as he stood on the cusp of his 21st year in the NBA. Moreover, Qerim noted, according to Lakers’ general manager Rob Pelinka, James was preparing for the new season like a rookie. She then asked Shannon Sharpe if this would be the last time James made the top ten.

Sharpe responded with a resounding “no.” He added LeBron James was something special given he entered season 21 as one of the top ten players in the NBA. Shannon Sharpe pointed to Lakers’ legend Kobe Bryant and how he was written off by experts towards the latter stages of his career. Bryant retired at the age of 37 after age and injuries began taking their toll. James is presently 38 years old.

Sharpe added he believed LeBron James still has that look in his eye. He argued James is sound of mind and body. Shannon Sharpe posited James is more than willing to put in the requisite work to be great. As a result, according to Sharpe, James can be a top ten player in the NBA next season as well, should he opt to return to the fray?
