NASCAR and ice hockey might not have too much in common. But these are two sports that have a penchant for speed on their respective surfaces (ice and tracks). In 2019, the premier hockey league came together with the premier racing circuit for a spectacular event. Pennsylvania’s Pocono Raceway saw action on its tracks with two NASCAR entries catching everyone’s attention. This was due to their association with NHL, which not only brought viewers to Pocono but also drove up ticket sales for Minor League Hockey before pre-season.

The Gander RV 400 and the Camping World Truck Series were held on July 28, 2019, at the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Quin Houff and Josh Reaume were the two racecar drivers who were sporting the said attraction in their respective events.

As per The Hockey News, Houff’s Spire Motorsports and Reaume’s Chevrolet Silverado were the two NASCAR entries on the day that sported NHL sponsorships. This team-up between the two fulfilled sponsorship requirements for race teams to pay for tires, fuel, and entry fees. It also helped the minor hockey teams create a buzz around their name to ensure more people booked tickets before minor league season.

At the Gander 400 RV, Houff drove a No.77 Chevrolet Camaro donning the colors and logo of Rapid City Rush of the ECHL, a mid-level professional ice hockey league. The car was black all over with shades of deep red on it, also the colors of the Rapid City Rush. The word ‘Rush’ and the number 77 were emblazoned on the car. Houff finished 31st, his career-best at the time.

At the Camping World Truck Series, Josh Reaume drove a No. 27 Chevrolet Camaro donning the black and orange colors of Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. An all-orange color and black shade by its side covered the truck. The team name was written on the hood and the number 33 was emblazoned in black on both sides. He ended up in the 20th position.
