However, with the high risk involved in performing stunts, it?s no surprise that accidents happen. One such accident occurred during the filming of Armour of God, which left the team terrified to see Chan in excruciating pain.
In 1986, Chan directed and starred in Armour of God in Yugoslavia. The movie was a blend of action and comedy, and Chan performed many of his own stunts. During one scene, Chan had to jump from a wall onto a tree branch.?

The deadly accident
The branch was supposed to break his fall and allow him to safely land on the ground. However, things didn’t go as planned. While Chan shot the scene without any problems, but he wasn’t happy with the first attempt and wanted to try again. ?My collaborator thought we got the shot and could move on. I disagreed. I insisted on one more take?, he recalled in his autobiography. ?However, the branches had gotten weak after the series of pressure put on them.?

On the third attempt when Jackie Chan jumped, the branch broke, causing him to fall over 15 feet to the ground below. He hit his head on a rock, which caused a skull fracture and severe bleeding in his brain.?In his autobiography, Never Grow Up, the martial art icon wrote, ?I had no sense of time passing. I tried to sit up, but everyone held me down?? ?

The crew members were horrified to see the blood oozing from his ear. ?They were terrified that I was about to die,? Chan recalled. ?In a barely conscious state, he was taken to the hospital. Later, he learned that a piece of bone had become lodged inside his brain as a result of a portion of his skull partially collapsing. The doctors had to remove a piece of his fragmented bone to relieve the pressure on his brain.?

A wake-up call for Jackie Chan despite the success of the movie
The action superstar had to spend a few days in intense medical care under experts. However, within seven days, the martial artist was back on the set to complete the movie. The film was a commercial success and further cemented Jackie Chan’s status as an action superstar.
