American MMA pro Dustin Poirier is a former UFC lightweight champion. He is listed as the second-most tough competitor in the 2022 UFC rankings, whereas Brian Shaw has been a significant name in the strongman industry. While the two emerge from disparate disciplines, fights among skilled fighters and hefty strongmen have been a popular subject matter. Hence, when Poirier and Shaw once met up for a brawl session, which was further posted on the latter’s YouTube, guess who stole the show?

According to a 2021 article by the Men’s Health, 440-lbs Brian Shaw hit the UFC ace’s gym in Colorado. Post some MMA-focused routines, the two got ready for their duel for the sake of refining their submission skills. Additionally, this was Poirier’s second session with a Strongman, since his fight with Icelandic pro, Hafthor Björnsson in 2015.
“I’ll see if I can keep you down, move you around, maybe submit you,” remarked Poirier. As the two engaged, the 155-lbs athlete led on the fight with commendable MMA finesse tackling the gigantic frame of Shaw. However, realizing their physical distinctions, Poirier said, “But I did just see this guy lift a dumbbell that weighs as much as I do.”
Despite the lightweight champ’s impressive skills, most of the attention went towards Shaw’s enormous strength and the consequential outcome if he was to be trained as a MMA pro. Furthermore, the strongman even dominated the 2022 Mr. Olympia stage, where he was invited as a guest.
Brian Shaw overshadowed Mr. Olympia competitors in 2022.
The 6’8” Strongman was invited to the 2022 Mr. Olympia stage to declare the winners under the 212-lbs category. What followed was a splendid scenario. Shaw stood sky-scraping over the bodybuilders, Shaun Clarida and Kamal El-Gargni making them look miniature.

The degree of applause the Strongman has received for his natural gifts is tremendous. Nevertheless, he won the World’s Strongest Man contests in non-consecutive years. He also aced the 2011 Arnold Classic, which got him acclaimed as the foremost person to champion two significant events in a single year. One has to salute him for his abilities, though.
