Originating from the 1974 North American Soccer League (NASL) team, the Sounders, reigned till 1983 until they ran out of business, the Seattle Sounders have come a long way. The Major League Soccer team was established in 2007 and participated in events as a phoenix club in 2009. Recently, the club released brand-new merchandise whose sales topped their last one.

As per a report by Seattle Times, the team’s new jersey was influenced by Bruce Lee. Thus, the endeavor was a massive hit, reaching an optimum target within a span of hours. Moreover, the profits from the sales shall go to a valuable cause.

Seattle Sounders make a hit

According to the sources, the jersey is sponsored by Providence Swedish overtaking the Zulily sponsorship. The “Bruce Lee Kit” was launched on Wednesday, making it available for fans in stores. Shockingly, the sales shooted to the $50,000 target in two hours while their primary Jimi-Hendrix-inspired ones took almost a week.

Even though their former kit sales were marked as an impressive record in 2021, the Providence-sponsored ones seem to be breaking it all. Besides, Adrian Hanauer has authority over a significant portion of the club. Hence, he revealed that the gains would be donated to the Bruce Lee Foundation as well as the Wing Luke Museum in Seattle.

However, there has been criticism regarding their new collaboration with the sponsor. Several vast supporter groups of the club are disappointed with associating with the company since they do not stand for a list of social issues. Hanauer addressed the concerns and weighed in on their strategic scheme for the cause. As a token of appreciation, the Sounders will pay tribute to their idol on his death anniversary.

The Sounders remember Bruce Lee

For the Little Phoenix’s 50th death anniversary, the Seattle-based club has figured out their plan of action to pay their due respects to the icon. The club will don their new jersey to recognize Lee’s significant contribution to the world. The jerseys resemble his martial arts theme in red with a dragon logo.

Bruce Lee is buried in the Lake View Cemetery in Seattle. And as per the legend’s family, the city was dear to him. He established his first studio there and even attended Washington University. As a result, he is highly cherished by the city’s people, which remains a solid reason for the Sounders’ new inspiration.
