After spending years struggling with poverty, Hollywood actor Jackie Chan became a multi-millionaire with his impeccable skills. In fact, after securing his foothold in the movie industry, the Chinese martial artist soon became a fight director and a producer later on. However, as he revealed earlier, with money comes security, and he got a chance to invest in his hobbies.

Chan had bizarre habits of buying in bulk. In fact, in search of a shoe, he would end up buying a warehouse full of shoes. Nevertheless, his pleasure of buying custom-made limited edition items once made Chan anxious, and he started collecting those things from all over the world.

Jackie Chan was a hoarder

In his autobiography Never Grow Up, Chan shared that when he became famous worldwide, he’d want to collect unique things that would give him pleasure. Popular wineries, branded cars, and sunglass companies would manufacture fancy items in collaboration with Chan. And it was his increasing popularity that those limited edition items would soon become go out of stock. As he shared, “Whenever a craftsman or merchant came out with a limited-edition Jackie Chan item, it always sold out as soon as it hit the market. I?d allow them to make only one batch, and when that was gone, that?d be it.”

But it would concern him too, thinking about what if he could lose some of these. And that anxiety would make him collect those items from all over the world. “The only thing is, I?d get anxious that the items would be lost to me, so I?d start buying them back from all over the world.” Evidently, his collections comprised of? Jackie Chan red wine, bat-wing sunglasses, and Mitsubishi’s EVO Jackie Chan special edition.

Not only buying expensive items, but also being able to buy whatever he desired, gave him a sense of mental peace. This feeling is certainly attributed to the humble childhood of the martial artist who hated the feeling of being deprived.

Chan’s childhood toils made him an overspender in adulthood

When he was a child, Chan’s family stumbled to make ends meet. Even after growing up, nothing changed immediately. When he eventually became successful, the actor went leaps and bounds thinking how he now had the money to do whatever he wanted to do. As he penned down in his book, “I wouldn?t purchase just a few pairs of shoes; I?d go scoop up the contents of an entire warehouse.?

In fact, he once bought seven watches for seven days a week, from a famous watch store. Although he didn’t stop there, and gifted the watches to every person from his crew, totaling the amount to $500,000.

However, even though he splurged a huge sum of money at that time, later the martial artist understood the difference between luxury and necessity. A changed man, Chan soon transformed into a person who instead of hoarding wealth, wanted to donate everything before his demise.
