According to the book, the action-com star was accompanied by his son to the sets of his upcoming film, Crime Story. His then nine-year-old son patiently observed his father performing a difficult stunt. Apparently, Chan had to exhibit an underwater feat. He dived into a tank and staged his stunt as Jaycee watched. As per his autobiography Never Grow Up, “He watched as I struggled in the water, looking tormented,” he stated.
After a number of takes, he was unable to spot Jaycee among the onlookers. Assuming him to have gone for a break, Chan continued with his work. Later on, Chan talked to his son on the way home, saying, “You see how hard Daddy works? I bet you didn’t know that before.” Further, his wife, Joan Lin added, “Your dad really suffers on set, doesn’t he?”
Considering the experience, Jaycee revealed his sentiment instantly. He said, “Yes. I had to run to the bathroom to cry halfway through.” Throwing light on the actual scenario, Chan previously added in the book that the water he was diving into was actually warm. There were several measures taken to keep the actor from freezing, two big lights focused on him to keep him comfortable. However, Chan confessed to exaggerating his shivering and teeth chattering to get his son to empathize with him. In another of the martial artist’s episodes with his son, he once rebuked Jaycee to make him independent.
