Martial art legend Bruce Lee fought every obstacle in his life to emerge as a global icon. Not just the rat race in his acting career, but also a mishap that once sidelined him with a potentially career-ending injury. Although the injury gave him discomfort for the rest of his life, Lee chose to overcome his pain and show people that he lived a normal lifestyle.
In Lee?s biography, Bruce Lee: A Life, author Mathew Polly revealed how ?the always active Lee,? was on complete bed rest for three months due to his injury. Moreover, it also traces the situation when Lee recovered but still bore back pain for the rest of his life.?

When the master returned to Hong Kong in the late 1960s, he soon began to search for studios to make films. Sadly, before he could pitch any studio with his idea, he experienced the unfortunate. Like every other day, the master was warming up with a 125 lbs barbell on his shoulders on 13 August 1970. Unfortunately, Lee failed to warm up properly, and something snapped in his back.?
He ignored the injury for the next few days until it became more severe, forcing him to seek out a doctor. The diagnosis revealed that Lee had damaged his fourth sacral nerve, permanently. He was prescribed three months of bed rest along with being told that he should forget about doing Kung Fu further in life. This was like a death sentence for Lee.?
However, Lee rested for the prescribed period. But after five months Bruce began working out moderately and resumed light training. His determination to live like before had shocked the physicians. Although everything was normal for Lee, he experienced chronic pain in his back from the injury, that he decided to bear for the rest of his life.?
His biography revealed, ?He simply decided it would not stand in his way, pushed through the pain, and once again was able to lead what appeared to outsiders to be his normal lifestyle.??Throughout the five months that Lee was at home, he faced financial trouble and feared for the well-being of his family. However, his wife Linda went against Lee to solve the money issue that they experienced at that period.?

Seeing her husband?s helplessness while laying in bed, Linda decided she had to do something to support her family financially. She applied for a job and that did not go well with Lee. The patriarchal Chinese husband in the master discarded the decision, telling Linda,???You already have a job: wife and mother. It would be a disgrace and loss of face for my wife to work.?

However, Linda was not ready to jeopardize the well-being of their children by abiding by Lee?s thought process. Hence, she worked for a few months while Lee made up reasons for telling people why his wife was not at home if someone asked.?

Eventually, Lee recovered and he began going to work. When his first film, The Big Boss came out in 1971, it became a blockbuster solving many financial issues for the Lee family.?
