Carlos Correa and his transfer saga have been the hot potato of the 2022 off-season. Correa’s transfer saga has run conversations, being linked to several teams across the league. However, with Correa’s signing still in flux, fans across the league have taken to rumors with new furor. Prior to the lockout, 2 teams were considered to be in pole position to sign the shortstop; the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. However, subsequent to Correa, teaming up with super-agent Scott Boras, the Astros have started to look at line contenders as well. But where will Correa end up?

The New York Yankees seem to have had a second wind in their bid for the shortstop. Notably, the Yankees already have a strong case. However, with finances in place for a swoop of the shortstop’s services, they have another roster addition that may help them in their pursuit.

The Yankees are putting together a team and in doing so, they are likely looking for camaraderie. And the Yankees may just have made a roster addition that would make Correa comfortable in the Bronx.

Carlos Beltran signs as New York Yankees Broadcaster

Beltran will add significantly to the expertise in the Yankees’ sportscasting department come 2022. And who knows, this might just bolster the Yankees’ bid for Correa. Having a former teammate to welcome you at Bronx is definitely an added advantage for the Yankees.

Beltran was a 9-time All-Star who won 3 golden gloves across his career. In his 20 year stint in the Major Leagues, his pinnacle was undoubtedly the 2017 World Series, which he won with the Astros in 2017. The crucial part was that he won while on a team with Carlos Correa.

Beltran will make his first foray onto the Hall of Fame Ballot in 2023 and while it’s awaited to be seen whether he is inducted, surely being featured on the ballot is some solace. His deal with the Yankees will cover 36 games for YES, where he succeeds former pitcher David Cone in the booth.

Carlos Correa – signing for the Yankees?

Correa has put himself in a position for a bumper contract this off-season. With his World Series ring from 2017 to add to his tally, Correa is now the top target for most teams this off-season. Defensively, Correa was a sensation in 2021, even winning the Platinum Glove for the league. Correa’s offensive contribution too is not something to be ignored.

However, his high performance can only mean one thing; A huge price tag. The Yankees may look to save some money on the signing, however, by promoting from within.

The Yankees may be looking at the hole at shortstop by asking their prospects to step up. Their farm system has been productive in recent years; throwing up players like Oswaldo Perez, and with Anthony Volpe waiting in the wings, a superstar signing could mess up some plans for the Yankees.

With players like Aaron Judge too running on the end of their contracts, the Yankees could want to reserve some of their finances to renew their established roster members too.

While it remains to be seen how the Carlos Correa free agency saga ends, the process is truly enjoyable.
