For the first time since 1994, Old Timers’ Day is finally back for the Mets’ fans this year. Earlier, when Fred Wilpon and Nelson Doubleday were the co-owners of the Mets, they didn’t even try to restore it under the ownership of Wilpon and Katz’s families. They eliminated the Old Timers’ Day from the Mets routine.

However, Steven Cohen, who bought the Mets ahead of the 2021 season, has decided to bring back the good old days for the Mets’ fans. He said bringing back Old Timers’ Day was one of the requests he heard from the fans.

As we celebrate our 60th anniversary season, having these legendary players return to the ballpark to hear cheers from Mets fans once again is the perfect way to honor our past,” said Cohen in a statement.
