The New York Yankees’ star pitcher Gerrit Cole has been one of the best players in Major League Baseball in the last few years. However, the 2021 season, in particular, was not the best season for both the Yankees and Gerrit Cole.

Apart from his poor performance in the last season, the Yankees star also faces some heavy criticism for his gameplay from the then Twins’ star Josh Donaldson. And since then, Gerrit Cole and Josh Donaldson have not liked each other in MLB.

However, in the upcoming season, baseball fans are in a treat to watch something unexpected. Yes, from the 2022 season, Cole and Donaldson will be playing for the same team; New York Yankees.

When Josh Donaldson called out Gerrit Cole for a cheater in the 2021 season

Ever since the free agency has reopened, the Yankees did not make a single signing until Sunday. And now, not one, but along with Josh Donaldson, the Yankees have acquired two other Minnesota Twins players in a five-player trade.

According to KFGO, apart from third baseman Donaldson, shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa and catcher Ben Rortvedt have come to the Yankees. While the Yankees’ catcher Gary Sanchez and third baseman Gio Urshela have headed to the Twins.

However, Donaldson coming to the Yankees might create a problem for the Yankees star Gerrit Cole. Because the two players do not have a great history in the past. During the 2021 season, when Donaldson used to play for the Twins, he heavily criticized Cole for his spin rate following his June 3, 2021 start in MLB.

As per NY Post, Josh Donaldson had called out the Yankees ace. He said, “Is it coincidence that Gerrit Cole’s spin rate numbers went down after four minor-leaguers got suspended for 10 games?”

Now, when the regular season is about to start from the next month, it will be interesting to see how these two team up for the rest of the season.
