Just a few days more and the 2022 MLB will be up and running. And given the lockout marred wait, there cannot be better news than this for baseball fans. However, there is also bad news for the New York Yankees and Mets and their fans, ahead of the start of the new season of MLB.

Recently, there were reports that any such player who plays for a New York-based sports team, if fails to provide required vaccination status, may stand a chance of being banned from playing their home games.

Now the New York City mayor has confirmed that he is not going to change the rules for specific teams and their players. Hence, only fully vaccinated players can play for the New York-based professional sports teams.

Notably, if the City Mayor doesn’t change their vaccination policy, then the New York-based sports teams, including the Yankees and Mets, will be the most affected ones. As per the rule in New York, no private employee can work in their organization without being fully vaccinated.

Earlier on Tuesday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that he will not be making any change in vaccination restrictions. He said baseball, basketball, and businesses have to wait until that layer comes. Adams also confirmed that he will reduce the restrictions at the right time.

“Right now, we’re going to take some complaints,” said New York City Mayor. “But when this is all said and done, people are going to realize this is a thoughtful administration and we got it right. So baseball, basketball, businesses, all of those things, they have to wait until that layer comes. And when we feel it’s the right time to look at that…, we’re going to make that determination. We’re not there yet.”

With this confirmation by the city mayor, those players who play for a New York-based team cannot play the home games for their teams, if not vaccinated. However, they can still play away games outside the city.
