As he runs up appearances in the Yankees’ farm system, the shortstop prospect is having his name ring louder and louder in the clubhouse. And as he took to home plate for the Patriots with the bases loaded, he did what he does best. Dispatch a pitch to have it run long and true.
Anthony Volpe crushes Grand Slam
Anthony Volpe is doing everything right as he makes his way up the New York Yankees’ farm system. Spending some time last year with their Lower A affiliates, 2022 has seen him upgrade. Playing in Double-A Somerset, Volpe is proving that he can have an impact at any level he plays. And what better way to prove your offensive capabilities than with an impressive grand slam? What’s more, this was Volpe’s first home run playing in Double-A ball.

The win allowed Somerset to stay atop their division with a 4-2 record in the season so far. While most expect them to do well if Volpe remains on the roster, that is seeming increasingly unlikely.

The objective of any farm system is to develop players for the major leagues. Further, If Volpe continues on his path, then he may well be set to feature in pinstripes. And sooner than we know at that. With the Yankees’ roster only housing Gleyber Torres and Isiah Kiner-Falefa as natural shortstops, Volpe could soon be set to take the leap. And when he does, the Bronx will surely be anticipating his debut.
Having sufficiently impressed with his development so far, the Yankees remain bullish on Volpe, even reportedly denying trades involving the prospect. He is seemingly going to be a fan favorite; and whenever he does make it big, the Yankee faithful will surely be rooting for the shortstop to debut in the Bronx soon.
