Max Scherzer is clearly excited to get the season going. With his pre-lockout move to the Mets finalized, getting acclimatized to his new club was perhaps on a timeline longer than he had expected; but it is finally here. And as Scherzer took to the bullpen for the first time in Mets gear for his practice session, the hype seems to be real.

With their mound rotation also set to feature star pitcher Jacob deGrom after his return from injury; hitters will surely be allotting some time specifically to prepare for their matches in Queens this year. And Scherzer looks ready and raring to go.

Max Scherzer seems to be taking his new spot in Queens quite well. With the pitcher already seemingly adjusting to Jacob deGrom and him rotating their positions on the mound, he seemed to be getting back into a rhythm too.

While on the Dodgers last season, Scherzer had spent some time on the injured list in the past two seasons and has missed a fair amount of game time because of that too. However, marking his return to the fold this season, fan expectations from the pitcher will be high.

Max Scherzer, too, has said that he is ready to go; and is looking forward to his stint with the New York Mets. “I think I got the time to get to a 100 pitches by Opening Day, I got that mapped out,” said Scherzer.

He added that while the injury from last season does not seem to have too much play; getting back to playing form is more fun for him now. Said Scherzer, “I know where I need to be at and it’ll be fun to get into these games.”
When asked more pointedly about his preparation on dealing with competition from inside the bullpen and with Jacob deGrom, Scherzer seemed quite dismissive. Eager to test himself against and pitch with the best, Scherzer was quietly assured. Speaking about deGrom, he added, “He’s the reason I’m here. I wanna be here and pitch with great pitchers and he’s one of them.”
