The New York Yankees look ready to start the 2022 season in style. With their pitching depth getting into some rhythm at spring training, their hitters also look set to go; And the chief among them, Aaron Judge.
With the outfielder taking home plate in their Spring Training match-up with the Cardinals, he sent two pitches into the orbit, getting the Yankees 2 homers over his stay-at-home plate. However, his future in pinstripes still remains up for discussion with looming contract talks.

Aaron Judge has been a Yankees mainstay since 2018. After having recorded a solid rookie season, Judge became a bit of a fan favorite and has been adored by the Yankee faithful since.
However, with his contract running out in 2023, he needs some definition. And he has made his stance clear. He would need an extension to be agreed upon before opening Day 2022 if he is to stay. And with April 7th fast approaching, the conversations will surely be picking up pace.
Aaron Judge homers in Spring Training
Aaron Judge is one of the biggest hitters in the Yankees’ lineup in 2022. With the right fielder managing to stay injury-free too, he could well be in for a solid season. And if his form in Spring Training is anything to go by, he is in for a whirlwind of a season. Judge recently slammed 2 massive home runs in a spring training game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. And his part in the Yankees’ 7-4 will not be forgotten soon.
What is perhaps scarier for pitchers is that it doesn’t seem like Judge has hit peak form yet. “It looked like he just barely swung the bat, too,” said Yankees left-hander, Jordan Montgomery. “That’s the scary thing. He flicked it and it went that far.”

Judge, however, seemed to be growing into the game as it progressed. According to Statcast, the first homer measured at 111.7 mph; but it was the second that set the registers ringing. Judge’s second hit was slugged at 114.5 mph and carried almost 382 feet into the right-field picnic area of the ballpark.

An extension on the cards?
Judge, however, has indicated that his stay at the New York Yankees into next year is contingent on an agreement before Opening Day. And while no specific progress has been reported yet, Yankees general manager, Brian Cashman, has indicated that the front office has a clear intent. Reportedly, the team plans to present a contract extension offer to Judge and his representatives before Opening Day and the work remains ongoing.
