A memorable debut season for Tommy White

A freshman making his way to NC State, Tommy White has seen a remarkable debut. He’s homered 5 times in this season already; all while NC State have only notched up 3 games so far. White had one of the most memorable debuts on his first day out at the ballpark.

White is not what you would call impatient, but he sure delivers with speed. After only seeing a singular pitch in his debut at-bat, White seemed to shrug all shackles of expectation. Tired of waiting for a pitch in his zone, White took an almighty swing at the next pitch. And the ball seemed to just pop off his barrel. With his first swing, White dispatched the pitch directly over the 400-foot fence in centerfield for a homer. And by no means was he done yet.

White homered again in the 5th innings and set another pitch flying past the boundary wall in the 8th. And while dealing prolifically in homers, White also managed to sneak in 2 singles for a 5-for 6 outing. He racked up 6 RBI in the Wolfpack statistics to lead them in every possible category offensively on Opening Day.

Happy with his performance on the day, White seemed cheery to end the day. “It’s not what I expected,” said the freshman with a smile. Needless to say though, he seemed proud of his day in the ballpark, “It’s a great debut.”

White kept the performances churning. Even after his Game 1 heroics, White continued to stun the Purple Aces over the weekend. He hit an almost unreal 5 homers in 14 at-bats; boasting a .643/.688/1.714 slash line against Evansville with 12 RBI and two walks. He racked up such a reputation that the freshman was being intentionally walked by the Purple Aces later in the weekend.
