Josh Donaldson might be the newest Yankee on their roster, but after his showing on Opening Day, he could well be a fan favorite. Managing to put together a clutch hit in the 11th inning of the game, Donaldson sealed the Yankees’ 6-5 win over arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox.

It seems likely now that the Yankees’ third base now has been locked down for the season ahead. With Donaldson coming to the fore offensively, the Yankees look to be on for a great season.

The New York Yankees did not have a great start to their season opener. With Gerrit Cole conceding a quick 3-0 lead to the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees looked down; but they were not out. Trailing the Boston Red Sox 3 times over the game, the New York Yankees came back every time to get the win and start their season on a winning note. And it was Donaldson’s hit that iced the game to win it for the Yankees.

Josh Donaldson – Happy with the start?

Speaking to the media immediately after the game had concluded, Donaldson sounded out of breath, but happy. Having led his team out of a bit of a sticky situation, he was certainly glad to watch as the Yankees celebrated their victory.

Said Donaldson, “Yeah it’s huge early on. Helped my team win the game but it was so much more than me.”

And with the first such showing since 1957, he could well write himself into the history books.

Ever the team man, Donaldson took his time to allocate due credit to everyone on the roster, too. “Our guys, our pitching staff did a great job today. Our offense, battled back after getting out early and it’s awesome, it’s awesome to be here,” he added.

With the Yankees eyeing up a mounting title challenge, this certainly seemed to mark a line in the sand. The Pinstripes have had a few underwhelming campaigns recently; and despite consistently making it to the post-season, have not necessarily created much from those chances. Josh Donaldson is certainly bullish about the Yankees this year.

Said Donaldson, “It means that we’re resilient and we’re a good ball-club. We went out there, played hard and got the job done today.”
