The first pitch for the resumption of the transfer window is in. And like many other first pitches, this too has had a similar effect on New York Yankees fans; A feeling of general joy at action, but confused about what exactly they were trying to achieve. With the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins announcing a 5 player trade between them, fans took to Twitter to react to the trade and give their thoughts.

The 5 player trade saw the Yankees cover some key positions, including shortstop; while the Twins were possibly ramping up for more action across their other signings. However, fans across the Twitterverse seemed en masse puzzled by the trade, and unable to make out how exactly it was going to pan out over the course of the season. Some fans even went as far as to question the nexus of the trade and why it was carried out at all.

The trade emerges
Jon Heyman was one of the few to report on the trade as it broke the news cycle. Reportedly, the two teams were quite satisfied with the calls they made, and how it could pan out for them.
Not sure I’ve ever seen both teams so pleased by a trade: Yankees upgraded at 3B and SS (well, they didn’t have a SS) and finally cut the cord on Gary Sanchez, who needed a change of scenery, while the Twins saved about $50M off the Donaldson deal to improve in multiple areas.

The fans, however, are a different matter altogether. And perhaps reporter Ben Verlander put it best as he tweeted out.
The Twins/Yankees trade is the biggest trade of all time that left both fan bases pissed off and disappointed

With the trade report in, fan messages too began to stream in at a steady pace. Although perhaps calling them confused fan statements would be more appropriate. And with some fans even outright upset at not being able to understand the trade, the reactions were ones to watch out for.

This Twins Yankees trade doesn’t make sense for either side to me

Others still chose slightly harsher words to phrase their confusion.
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS YANKEES TWINS TRADE

But some fans managed to see the funny side even amid their confusion at seeing the trade draw to fruition.
The Twins-Yankees trade is the type of shit the cpu teams do in MLB The Show franchises.

I can't figure out what anybody is doing in this Yankees Twins trade, so that makes it a fun deal.

Big days ahead?
Others still believed that the only way this deal had ever come to pass was if there was something larger at play for the Twins. Surprisingly, Yankees fans too shared some similar thoughts on the trades albeit from a Yankees perspective.
Having now slept for five whole hours after last night's Twins-Yankees trade hysteria, my update is: I'm even more convinced than before that the Twins made the seemingly confusing trade to dump Josh Donaldson's contract because they have a big follow-up move, or moves, planned.

I have to believe that Hal and Cashman have another move up their sleeves after making this trade with the Twins #Yankees

Who won the trade?
The classic question that always gets asked at the end of each transfer season, however, persisted; And fans presented both sides. Even while the Yankees gained some solid rotation players, the Twins seemingly got Donaldson off his giant contract and can stand to make offers to other players. So how does this work?

Some Yankees fans seemed to think that they had lost the trade because of how it has turned out.
The Yankees just let the Twins swindle the fuck out of them in this trade. Was it to make up for all the playoff beatings?

But mostly it was fans uninterested in the entire transaction altogether when it came to the two teams.
The Twins and Yankees both accomplished nothing with that trade

But perhaps most fan sentiment could be best summed up by a Twitter user in a succinct tweet that he put out.
I…..am not sure what the Yankees or Twins are trying to accomplish with this trade

But how do you see this trade panning out in the long term? And what do you think the teams will be doing to make them better fits in the long term? Do you think the Yankees or the Twins got the shorter end of the stick?
